Ivy is having the worst week of her life as The Beautiful Ashes opens. Her parents have died in a suspicious car accident, and her sister Jasmine has disappeared. She’s going from one tiny bed-and-breakfast to another trying to find Jaz. Her problems aren’t as simple as finding a sibling who doesn’t want to be found.

Her sister has been kidnapped by demons, and only Ivy can save her. And she has one hot, very off-limits guy to help her.

Jeaniene Frost employs some straightforward and engaging mythology. Ivy and Adrian, the hero, are mortals caught up in the battle between heaven and hell—or in this case Archons and demons. The two mortals are helping the angelic side (obviously), and have special gifts as being the last of their bloodlines. Each is descended from a key Biblical figure. The visuals in the book, especially when looking at demons or within demon realms, are the right balance of uncomfortable and familiar.

Supernatural fans will certainly find lots of love within the pages of The Beautiful Ashes. Battling demons, saving innocents, a bitchin’ car and often too-cryptic angels—for starters. The concept isn’t entirely new, and you’ll certainly spot some new adult tropes in action. However, Frost’s writing shines bright enough that it doesn’t matter.

Putting this book down once I began was near impossible. I was driven to get answers about Ivy and Adrian’s destiny. Their chemistry is palpable, and my chest tightened the first time they kissed. The pacing is spot on.

You don’t need to be a fan of the new adult genre trend to enjoy The Beautiful Ashes. Come for the romantic chemistry, stay for the adventure.

Meh.

The story was okay but Ivy was little annoying and she was whiny too. I do plan on reading the next book. I'm hoping the story gets better.

I would read the phone book if Jeaniene Frost helped put it together but a Harlequin? This was tough. And there are two more...

“well, ivy, i’ve got good news and bad news. the good news is, you’re not crazy. the bad news is, everything you’ve seen is real, and now, it’ll be coming for you.”

When I found out that Jeaniene Frost (author of the Night Huntress and Night Huntress Universe novels) I was generally ecstatic for what was to come. Her books are entertaining, action-packed, and full of laughs and sexy times. Although The Beautiful Ashes has a few signature traits from her previous work, it’s a whole different ballgame in the start of this interesting series.

“you and i aren’t most people, ivy.” he said softly. “because of what we see, we don’t get to pretend the world is a beautiful place where monsters don’t exist.”

The Beautiful Ashes centers around Ivy and Adrian, two characters with pretty insane backstories, caught up in a world of demons and self-fulfilling prophecies. If there is one thing about this novel and the rest of the series I am looking forward to, it’s the world-building that Jeaniene writes. My main problem with rating this book any higher is because of Ivy and Adrian. Don’t get me wrong, they are entertaining. There were a few moments I laughed out loud because of them. But my problem is when it comes to their chemistry, or lack thereof. While I hate comparing these characters to the sexy and romantic Cat and Bones, because those two are in a league of their own, Ive and Adrian don’t have any of those qualities of attraction that I was coming to expect from Ms. Frost. Their banter felt stilted, the chemistry was lacking, and I just didn’t find them believable as a couple.

“you’re the light i’ll never have…and i’m the darkness you’ll never succumb to.”

Having said that, I am not one to give up lightly. For what Ivy and Adrian lacked as a romantic couple, the action, world-building and promise of this series has me intrigued enough to read the next book in the series. I have faith that the issues I had will be rectified and expanded on in the next installment.

I think I compared it too much to her Night Huntress Series (I absolutely love that Series!), and this is completely different and also YA/ clean.
The premise was interesting, but I couldn't completely connect to the characters.

Author: Jeaniene Frost
Narrated by: Tavia Gilbert
Length: 8hrs and 21mins
Published: 2014
I received this book from Blackstone Audio via Audiobook Jukebox.

The Beautiful Ashes is the new book by Jeaniene Frost. Frost is the author of the Night Huntress and Night Prince series. The Beautiful Ashes is apart of the Broken Destiny series that is a New Adult Trilogy. In this book Frost departs from the world of vampires and enter the world of demons. Readers will be introduced into a new characters and a world in this series.

This is Ivy and Adrian story. Ivy is a 20-year-old college student that has always seen thing that she thought was a side effect her resulting from mental illness. Over time she learns how to play normal to get through life. Adrian is this guy that knows the strange and crazy things Ivy has seen all her life is totally real. This book was interesting and clever. Frost does a great job at creating the world. As for the characters I really never was pulled into their stories. At times Ivy was very foolish. But at the end of the book that I really start to like her. As for Adrian he typical YA/New Adult bad boy, with a complicated past and die-hard good looks. This book left me full of questions, and I will read the next book in this series. Also the book was full of funny one-liners. As for the narration Tavia Gilbert she did a great job. I will recommend that anyone that likes the Night Huntress series to give this one a try.

Wow The Beautiful Ashes was a fantastic book to read, from page one I was hooked and it didn't take me long to finish it because I couldn't put it down.

Ivy is a strong character, she has what she thinks are hallucinations that is until goes searching for her missing sister and gets drawn into a vision and almost gets killed and a strange handsome man, Adrian, comes and saves her from these strange people. Things are not as they seem and there are other realms that demons live in and because of Ivy's lineage the demons want her dead.

This is a gripping book that is full of paranormal, fantasy, adventure and a romance that you think may never happen because of what is told of a destiny.

I am not going to say anything else, it is a must read and I loved it!

I have not read anything from Jeaniene Frost before this book but now I want to read all her books and I am really looking forward to the next book in the Broken Destiny series.

As a fan of Jeaniene Frost, I can safely say that the rewarding feeling I will receive from this book will be from watching it minced in the reviews (that always feels good)

As far as spoilers go, "there is drama" is as much as I can do. To call the plot unremarkable is a step up from it's nonexistence. Added to that the shallow and downright annoying characters, weak world-building, quixotic/pointless reasoning and attitude to cover its plot holes, weak attempts at humor and the dogs and you get the last attempt of your basic has-been just trying to hang on.
