I enjoy Julia Whelan as a narrator and I was hoping to love her as an author, but this book wasn't it for me. It felt like it romanticized the cancer plot line, and there wasn't much to the story outside of the romance. Another ambitious woman who falls for/gives up her dreams for a man.
Moderate: Cancer, Sexual content, Terminal illness, and Vomit

I’m late to this party and didn’t realize it. I really enjoyed Thank You For Listening, saw this and thought it was a new book by Julia though I now realize it actually came first. While the concept of a casual fling isn’t usually going to hit right for me and this ended up being way heavier than I expected, I did enjoy it. It is less a romance and more of Ella finding herself at Oxford, working through her own past trauma and determining what she truly wants in life. I live Julia’s writing style and though I read the hard copy it was certainly her voice narrating it to me. It is a journey, a hard journey but a really beautiful story in the end.
Content Notes: Closed door romance

"My Oxford Year" follows the story of Ella Durran, who temporarily relocates to England to study at Oxford University. Her intention is to return to the United States after completing her studies to pursue a successful career. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when she encounters the captivating Jamie Davenport. The narrative unfolds themes of love, heartache, and fresh starts.
The book left me feeling indifferent; There were moments during the reading when I felt unengaged and uninterested in the storyline.
