Gone Pecan

Singer/songwriter Riley Jensen steps off the bus in her hometown and runs right into the boy/man who broke her heart, and his seven year old daughter Zoey, who is a big fan. Of course, Ethan was the very last person she wanted to see, but her publicist gives him and his daughter backstage passes to her concert.

Riley and Ethan were high school sweethearts, but she ran off to Nashville as fast as she could when she discovered Ethan had cheated on her. Her entire career was built off the songs she wrote in response to that heartache. And now she’s back to do a biographical television special in her hometown during the holidays. Riley is a foster child with no family and so Ethan’s family reaches out to her so she won’t have to be alone during the holidays.

It was a sweet book, despite Ethan’s cheating ways. The back story about the cheating was interesting and I didn’t hate Ethan, so that’s a plus. Riley was vulnerable, of course, but she was no victim. And I really liked Zoey, Ethan’s daughter, and the rest of the family. In fact, Ethan’s older brother, Wyatt, has his own story coming out next month in the anthology Holiday Kisses, which I just got on netgalley, so be expecting that review imminently.

3.5/5

Love romances that involve a musician for some reason.

3.5 stars -- Cute little read. Reminded me of a Harlequin book, maybe a Superromance? I know they're unrealistic, but I enjoy the famous person loves normal person books, and the unfinished business from teenage past love stories. So this one fit that bill. Was there anything particularly remarkable and unique to this one? Probably not. But I'm not too fussy. I liked Ethan's family (except Wyatt), and Zoe wasn't too annoying as a kid. Ringing endorsement eh? Maybe I should have rounded down, but now I'm too lazy, and I like Christmas books so whatever...

ON REREAD: rounded down. It just didn't capture me as much as the first time....

Riley Jensen is a certified star. She catapulted to fame based on her first album which she wrote after discovering her best friend in bed with her(Riley's) boyfriend.
Now it's ten years later and her team thinks that it's going to be a good idea to film a Christmas special in her old home town. She doesn't want to do it, but they're all so enthusiastic, she feels she can't say no.
Of course, the now widowed ex is still there, now with a seven-year-old daughter. A daughter who is obsessed with Riley Jensen (plot moppet).
Not as good as the third story. This was a story that really needed more development. There wasn't a lot of discussion about the past.
SpoilerRiley just said, "Nope, don't worry about me. I get it, we're good." Really? for an HEA. Not buying it.

Beginning with the caveats that I love Christmas themed books and expect them to be complete pulp, and that second chance romance is my favourite trope… I really wish I hadn’t wasted my time reading this.
The writing was fine, but I found the whole thing really tiresome and ugh.

A couple with a bitter past get a second chance at happiness.

Riley is a famous country singer who returns to her hometown after years, expecting anything but the warm welcome she receives.

Ethan has never gotten over Riley but let her go years before. He is now a widower with a young daughter who loves Riley and is determined to meet her, bringing the two together.

The past is revisited, misunderstandings are cleared and the couple fall in love all over again.

The Kent brothers are introduced in this story, with Ethan's story followed by embittered Wyatt's in [b:A Rare Gift|12967910|A Rare Gift (Kent Brothers, #2)|Jaci Burton|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1322186352s/12967910.jpg|18126015] next.

A part of the Naughty and Nice anthology but the stories comprising the Naughty part of the book is into the erotic romance and I have skipped those, so will be reviewing these separately.

All She Wants For Christmas is about forgiveness and taking a chance at love and hope. Riley Jensen, a Grammy award winner is back in her small-town Deer Lake as part of a publicity gig for her biography. It is place from she escaped the heartbreak of having to see the man she loved in her best friends’ bed. Returning to the hometown is not something she is looking forward to as the hurt and pain Ethan has caused has never lost its bite.

The sparks fly again as Riley comes face to face and the bundle of joy in the form of Zoey, Ethan’s daughter who loves Riley’s music. I loved how the author has used the camaraderie between the brothers and the family love to provide what Riley has always catapulted to. Second chance at love, hope and forgiveness and guilt about the past, each part of the book was beautiful and I wouldn’t mind reading about the love stories for the other brothers too.

Other than the fact that he “cheated” on her with her bff ten years ago, it was a really cute short book that I enjoyed.

Annual re-read took place a bit later this year after finishing How the Dukes Stole Christmas. This go-round I realized that Riley mentions how big Ethan's house is, and how he has three spare bedrooms with the suggestion that more kids will fill them some day. Then remembered in the 3rd book (Brody's) Ethan and Riley are in the process of building a brand new house which Tori describes as "huge" or something to that effect which now feels weird to me? I'm writing it off that Riley needs a studio and maybe they need privacy fencing or something. (Just making stuff up now)

Only about 100 pages but a really cute story. Now I want to get the others in the series and read about the other brothers.
