This book is amazing! It explains everything you need to know about perimenopause in accessible and often very witty language, with lots of helpful advice on how to deal with symptoms and what treatment options are available. It also covers issues such as endometriosis, diabetes and hypothyroidism and how they relate to your hormones, as well as advice relating to diet, exercise and supplements.

I thought the chapter on HRT was invaluable. Maisie explains the risks and benefits, and clears up the confusion and misinformation surrounding a massively flawed piece of research, which was published twenty years ago - this sort of information could be life changing for so many women! I feel so much more confident with this knowledge and, when the time comes, I’ll know how to approach my GP for help.

I’ve taken a long hard look at my lifestyle since reading this, and it’s really made me think about nutrition and exercise as a way of supporting my mental health, hormones and sleep hygiene (rather than a desire to lose weight) and I’m noticing a difference in my mood already ☺️

It’s the sort of book you can refer back to and dip in and out of, and just read the parts that apply to you at different times. Don’t wait until menopause is upon you to read this, as Maisie says, forewarned is forearmed, it just explains so much - it’s a real eye opener. Thank you Maisie!

Another brilliantly informative book from Maisie Hill. I love a book with references, and the research and scientific groundwork is comforting. I read the bits that were relevant to me and skipped the others, knowing I can come back to them at a time they become important.

3.5 stars - very informative book. Helps me anticipate what I could face going through perimenopause. I’m glad my OBGYN is approachable and trustworthy because if I had to navigate this on my own it would be overwhelming.

What a breath of fresh air to read a contemporary book on the (peri)menopause! Written with dry humour and obvious empathy, this is a joy to read, with inspirational sections and in easy-to-digest language (UK English, not American English). It explores a full range of issues and options, from traditional medicine through to nutrition, exercise and natural supplements. There were detailed explanations of exactly what is happening, which is great for people who want to understand why, not just receive prescriptive advice. I suspect I will dip in and out of this book again and again, and thoroughly recommend it to anyone adjusting to a changing body and wanting to make the most out of the rest of their life.
Many thanks indeed to Bloomsbury for an advance copy.

Great book as an introduction to - or more in-depth information about - perimenopause and some options (hormonal, surgery, holistic health modalities) to help deal with symptoms. Author takes a firm anti-fat stand, which repelled a few friends who would otherwise have appreciated the book. The author has an online community which they promote several times (and I understand that one pays for membership).
