Powerful and timely. I didn't love all of the artwork although the chickens were great. This does what Walk With Me tried to do but with a lot more subtlety.

Very Mexican styled coloring on pages and interestingly uses the Spanish word for rooster in the story. The plot revolves, subtly, around censorship and mistreatment; of powerful people using power for fulfilling their own wants.
I could see using this for older children for a story time with a theme of animals, bilingual or sensory (sound/singing).

Although this book is important to read and share now, it's a timeless book because it could have been read 50 years ago, and it will have meaning 50 years from now.

An allegory that sends an important message about standing up for what's right and using your voice when others cannot. Be sure to read the author's note at the end.

A noisy town becomes quiet when the new mayor institutes a "no singing" ordinance. But Rooster cannot remain quiet - no matter what the mayor does to him. This is a fine story about speaking out for what you believe in - no matter the consequences. Others may soon join your voice in song!

This book is a celebration of resistance, of letting your voice be heard when others want it silenced. A wonderful addition to any little revolutionary's personal library.

Town is too noisy. No one knew a solution. Voted for the one who promised quiet.
Gradual restrictions increased: No Loud singing at home. No Loud singing. No singing. Basta!
Rooster turns up; keeps singing under worse and worse conditions, promises that even when he's soup someone will sing--"A song is louder than one noisy little rooster and stronger than one bully mayor...and it will never die as long as there is someone to sing it."
Courage.

November 2017 - really fun to read aloud, and Ben was instantly a fan. Read several nights in a row.
