Wretched has a Wizard of Oz spin and I enjoyed Evelina as the villain. She's been running her father's drug empire, but been given little credit for it. A one-night encounter with a very sexy man who then shows up as her father's right-hand man, leaves her with a lot of questions.
There's no love lost between the Westerly family, but they'll stop at nothing to have each other's backs. At least that's what Eveline thought. Until it was her back on the line.
Definitely enjoyed the characters in this one, the tension between Evelina and Daddy's new pet boy, and all the twists and turns.

Third in the Never After series, Wretched is a loose reimagination of The Wizard of Oz, featuring Evelina, the “wicked witch” coded daughter of an Irish mobster, and Nick, an undercover DEA agent who scoffs in the face of love (one might say he is heartless). The story is set in modern day Chicago, centering on Evie's family's growing drug empire, and the formerly mentioned DEA agent on the hunt for their supplier. This book held a great pace, had great characters with a lot of depth, and wove through a very entertaining plot with a final twist that actually caught me off guard 👏👏👏 As always with this series, I love looking for all of the tie-ins to the original story and figuring out the who’s who as far as reworked characters goes.

The main criticism I have for this series in general is the time line. My suspension of disbelief was gone within the first couple chapters. The timeline is too fast for characters to risk everything for one another.

I am so excited to read more by Emily Mcintire! This book was such a wild (and fun) ride! The twists and turns kept me guessing about what would happen next; and even with all the suspense keeping me on the edge of my seat, Emily always seems to deliver on the most satisfying endings. If you haven't read anything by her yet, you're missing out!

Perfect for fans of Criminal Minds, Law & Order, maybe a sprinkle of Scandal/How to Get Away with Murder ✨
