While not as much of a page-turner as The Blade Itself, this book sets up its main characters and conflict brilliantly.

Another cracking book by Abercrombie. I've loved every book set in the same world as 'The First Law' and I now eagerly await the second book of this series. Fast paced and full action, tension and interesting dialogue. Introduces us to some brilliant new characters whilst some familiar faces are there to link it all together and make it feel familiar. The character development is interesting and in many cases relatable. And as always, the book is full of gritty descriptions and the characters all together not having an easy time, making the whole thing seem far more realistic than most other books. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am yet to find an Ambercrombie book that has let me down.

Listened to this on Audible. Narrator Steven Pacey was incredible.

The story, the characters... solid!
