I have read a LOT of WWII fiction over the years and was surprised I had never heard of Nancy Wake. I was fascinated by her, drawn in from the very first page and kept captivated until the last. However, I read the Author's Note at the end and while thrilled that Marceline was not a real person (although certainly there were many, many like her), I felt like the author tried so hard to keep things mostly accurate and this was an enormous liberty to take with this story.

Really really loved this. The entire book drew me in. I love Nancy’s different personas and jokes and the turns of all of the characters. This story was so interesting and enticing & the war felt really raw in light of current events. History being written in a different way & historical fiction is /so interesting! & loved the authors note (but don’t spoil it!!)

Loved the fact that this is based on a real person!! But WWII books tend to feel like the same story over and over again and this def suffered in terms of originality because there are so many other stories like it

I love Historical Fiction so much and this one hit the nail on the head. Not only is it based on real people and true events but it unfolds so beautifully. The only reason I removed 0.4 is because I thought the ending could have been done better. The book alternates every other chapter from past to present. And it ended on the past but I wanted it to end on the present and focus more on the character moving on.
