This is an uncomfortable read, it is meant to be. It discusses a lot of injustices; poverty, racial discrimination, sexual assault, domestic violence, and toxic family relationships. Dig somehow manages to do all of these justice in 400 pages while remaining intriguing. This is a book I will continue to think about for a long time and an author I will read more from.
it's ironic that our ancestors were able to avoid poisoning themselves on the plants, and yet rose to poison the whole world with themselves.

Me during the first third of this book - "I don't like it." Me during the middle third of this book - "Okay, I can admit this is a creative, ambitious, well-written book, but I'm just not connecting to it." Me during the last third of the book - "What's gonna happen next? How is this all going to come together? I need to know."

Dig is a slow burn novel about generational family drama/trauma that starts with all these disparate characters and storylines that eventually come together with a twist that is hidden in plain sight and written in a very artistic way. A few narrative edges could've been smoother imho, but a book that took me from uninterested to compelled across its reading.

4.5 stars. brilliantly executed with many layers. loved this so much. (meh on the ending which is why it's not a perfect 5 stars for me). Don't know if I should have read this so close to Sadie, but these were definitely 2 powerful books that hit me in the gut and heart.
