I grew up loving the movie as a kid. It's the ultimate love story. But watching it as an adult, I recognized some pretty unhealthy characteristics from both of the main characters.

I decided to pick up the book and compare. The book is more genuine and I find the writing kind of simple. I respect the author and the story but the author's personal note in the back of the book put a bit of a damper on it for me because it turned out he was very intentional about writing a love story based on what would be popular in the market, and not so much because he had this great love story in his head to share. Maybe I'm being overly critical but I expected more.

I bet this book is really amazing if you had not seen the movie and had no idea how the story unfolded. But I did still enjoy it even know I knew how it turned out. It's been so long since I had seen the movie that I thought it was time to read the book. A nice quick read. I did enjoy it.

I can't believe I've never read the book or watched the movie before. I really liked the book. Lots of emotions and reflections on life and human nature.

Ugh. So this book is a classic to me. It gives you all the feels. Much like the movie you find yourself falling in love with the characters and getting mad and frustrated and everything you would if you knew them in person. I just LOVE the love storyline. Toxic. Romantic. Emotional. It is very well written and I have honestly read it a good amount of times. THIS BOOK IS AVAILABLE IN MY PANGOBOOKS store like new if anyone is interested in reading it!

Wow! I can't explain this beautiful love story in words! Just Wow!

"Poets often describe love as an emotion that we can't control, one that overwhelms logic and common sense. That's what it was like for me. I didn't plan on falling in love with you, and I doubt if you planned on falling in love with me. But once we met, it was clear that neither of us could control what was happening to us. We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has happened only once, and that's why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I'll never forget a single moment of it.”

To be quite honest this book is just bad. I couldn’t feel sorry for Allie because she was the one making the decisions that made her unhappy. I have read books that have done a similar story better. The writing of this book is just terrible and you can tell it is a male writer writing a woman’s pov.

I can see why this book was popular at its height, it just isn’t good. The movie is probably better since it has good actors in it. Go for that instead don’t pick this up.
