This book was definitely interesting. There were some really strong moments in the plot and story, but the dialogue and writing had some really cringe moments for me. I wouldn’t say it was revolutionary, but definitely a fun read!

The best part was josh and luis. They should have been the main characters.

Extremely fast paced, fun, and refreshing “end of the world” book. I’ve read a handful of these style books and usually they’re all the same. However, Survivor Song has a different pace & feel to it. I felt completely sucked in to the story and able to relate to the main characters a lot! Highly recommend to anyone who wants a fun read.

I think I need a moment to process the trauma I felt reading this book. Especially those last 50 pages before the postlude. I am a ball of emotion.

Whoever said a zombie-esque pandemic book couldn't get you in the feels?

This was such a boring book. I didn't give a shit about anything that was hapenning. They are literally just TRAVELING for the most of this book.

The best part of this book is the very beginning, the first scene. I was hooked, I was creeped out and I was screaming at the characters to CLOSE THE FUCKING DOOR. But everything went downhill afterward - not just for the characters but for me as well.

I did appreciate the female friendship and I was a bit shocked that a man wrote it. Nats' voice messages for her child were also a nice addition.

Unfortunately, the plot was shit. Nothing happens, it's not scary and the fact that simmilar thing was happening this year in real life is mostly funny and not scary - some aspects are so on point like idiot politicians and some are a little exaggarated like the whole zombie-apocalypse from the movie vibe.

I think I'm done with Paul Tremblay - I find his book super repetitive and pointless.

I hate the “pregnant woman apocalypse” trope but love post apo stories that focus on human kindness and resilience so this gets 4 stars from me! Tremblay is a wordsmith.

I struggle when it comes to rating books for which I am not the target audience, e.g. this bleak and gory bit of horror when I’m not a fan of the genre, myself.

As in: Was this a “bad” book? Not at all - I’d easily recommend this to any of my friends who dig Stephen King. Did I - Rachel, decidedly not a King fan, super squeamish, avoidant of any/all media in which an animal dies - enjoy this one? God, no.

But still: Compelling enough, not poorly written (though a bit heavy-handed when - deservedly! - taking conspiracy theorists and poorly executed Federal responses to task), ultimately…not a “bad” book, she grudgingly conceded?

Three stars it is.

This is probably my favorite zombie/apocalypse book I’ve ever read, and I hate to use the word zombie since it’s so much more than that. A really great read for those who like their horror stories with more heart and realism than a gore fest.
