Disclaimer: I am adding every book I read in 2016 to Goodreads now.
I bought a few children's books about death - pet death specifically - around the time I had to let go of my cat Meredith this year. I thought maybe they would help me deal with the grief of losing my best friend of 17 years.
They did, just a little bit. If nothing else, it's a release sometimes to find something easy to read that makes you cry, just to get it out.

We read this as a family last year after our beloved cat died. It is very sweet and was therapeutic for us. The artwork has an old-fashioned, unrealistic aspect to it which I appreciated, as it kept me from reliving our loss.

A fantastic book, beautifully illustrated, about the death of a pet. It's one of those stories for children told in a way that will speak to adults as well. It's not maudlin or frightening, just a quiet tale of an elderly cat leaving first her home and her human family, then other animals, and finally her body, to become "part of the earth, the air, the sky, the sun— and all."

Anyone who has lost a beloved pet will find comfort in this book even as it makes them cry. Great for all ages.

I'm not crying, you're crying. Also: this is a book that deals with death and grief, but does not make any particular spiritual statements, so can be used by basically any parent.

Ugly crying. But a good ugly cry. A sweet, moving tribute to the life and death of a pet.
