i did enjoy the book a lot and i'm totally into the whole friends-to-lovers storyline..but sometimes demi's "ugh i need to look cute for my bf" thing and hunter's "ugh i really can't break my celibacy vow" were just super annoying to me. but i'm so happy about them being together - hunter absolutely deserved that after the whole summer/fitzy-thing!! loved hunter when he first appeared in the books and i love that he got his own book, however, it didn't live up to my expectations. plus, i wasn't happy with
the whole thing of tj being suicidal and really trying to kill himself. i think elle kennedy just wanted to add some extra..something? but didn't think of it too much. imo we should've been given more context and also information on what happened to him etc. that totally lacks here.
and not to talk about the epiloge...it was THE WORST like wth??!
i hated hollis and rupi's relationship from the start and now they got fucking married?! hell no, i'm out!! mike hollis deserves his own book with an exceptionally wonderful woman! dear elle kennedy, i will never ever recocer from that!
with that being said: i enjoyed the book, it was a nice & quick read but not as good as good as expexted.

This book was so good, being able to finally see Hunter get his happy ending. The ride of the main characters starting as friends and going to lovers was so cute. The sexual tension as they are flirting and not thinking the other one wants to do anything is just so great.

The things I have a problem with the book is it seems like the author is trying to add characters to just have diverse characters in her book but making them very stereotypical and harmful to people. The main character was a Latina and I feel like the parts of her that were added were after thoughts. I also don’t know why we have to continue to hyper sexualize queer characters. The main character has a friend who is gay, but their only there to sexualize the main love interest.

In short, I used to love the Briar U series but I think I can’t read anymore. The sexual tension (that I love as much as the next guy) is not worth the icky feeling I get from reading these half baked characters.

i don’t know what i expected picking this book up, but wow.

out of the three books i read from briar u, i liked this the most. it’s the most realistic story.

my heart aches for demi, that girl has been through a lot. let’s just say that she’s exactly what gaslight, gatekeep, and girlboss is. hunter, my beloved, he’s also so strong. i felt like throwing up reading his childhood trauma.

i am now more intrigued with reading the last book, but i don’t think i’m mentally prepared enough to say goodbye to these characters. they genuinely felt like family.

I think this is definitely my favorite from the Briar U series so far! I really loved delving into Hunter’s backstory and also reading about Demi. Their story started off so different and developed in a such an interesting way, in comparison to the other Briar universe books. Also, the epilogue was slightly unexpected and it was a nice lighthearted way to end the novel.   I personally wasn’t a huge fan of the usage of the word “shrink.” Also, the hero complex that occurred at the end was quite questionable. I think the entire situation should’ve been written at a different angle, because it really just felt like the author and characters didn’t understand what was actually happening, in my opinion.
