I’m conflicted…

I enjoyed the story. I like how fast paced it was, I like how she goes through trials with her knowledge, the fact that she’s a scientist is neat plus she’s not eighteen years old! She’s actually twenty nine

I wish we had more worldbuilding for the Unseelie and Seelie courts.

Mendax’s almost instant infatuation ruined the seriousness of his character for me because he became yet another MMC that said “mine” after having like a few short conversations with her. Also if I remember right, she was kept prisoner for two weeks and then he starts talking to her and then the trials are back to back daily so…. He fell in love in like three days? This guy who killed other prospects and killed for entertainment and boredom? hmm

I liked Callie in the beginning and middle; she kept her head together and created solutions to escape. However with the “twist”, everything about her character got unraveled with no foreshadowing or nothing. It just…….happened and we’re supposed to accept it.

Yeah, the “twist” salted my experience. I actually was gonna give this like 3.5/4 stars but with the “twist”? Just…no. K thx bye

5/5 for vibes.
Is the writing a bit cringe, yes. Is it trope heavy, yes. Did it tend to repeat itself a lot, yes. Was it still a great time and had me kicking my feet and screaming, heck yes!!!!! Didn't see the twist until the closer to the end because I was purely obsessed with the TRULY Enemies to think to deep.

I really wasn’t sure how to rate this… I didn’t really enjoy reading it… but also wanted to see what would happen next? Kinda like watching true crime. It was a Stockholm syndrome acid trip. I was both disturbed and intrigued (seriously, there were some truly disturbing scenes, check the trigger warnings!! Or message me if you have questions)
Now for the good: I really liked the FMC and that she was a bit of a science nerd, the spice and tension were 🔥, and there were some great lines.
Overall though, the writing didn’t feel super cohesive and it felt like some good tropes and lines were placed in there for the sake of it.
Without spoiling anything, I did have some qualms with the ending based on the POVs and narration throughout the book, so it left me a little confused. I’m curious about the second book and hoping it gives more insight and explanation to the ending- I will pick up the second one at some point, but I’m not dying to read it now.

Some favorite quotes:

“She could not live, but already I feared I would not draw breath without a part of her near.”

“We may have both been trying to destroy each other, lamb, but rest assured, only you have succeeded.”
