I really wish that the narration would have been multiple narrators because this edition added so many new characters' POVs and it got confusing. There was a lot of action but I had to read up some summaries to really grasp everything.

Second time reading
This time I enjoyed Truthwith a lot more. Don't really know why.. Still enjoyed it though!
First time reading
This book is so much better than Truthwitch. The story development is better, the world is explained clearer and with more information, the characters are given more depth and there is a better balance between plot and action.
The first book was hard to get hooked on, but Windwitch sucks you right in and doesn't let go. Can we just get Bloodwitch now please?

Not everything is what it seems.
Enemies turn to allies. The dead may not be truly dead.
Firstly, Iseult ❤️ Aeduan, that’s my official take, my opinion isn’t changing, it’s canon now.
Second, the last 150 pages were a rollercoaster! So much happened! Even better book than the first! Wow!

I really enjoyed this second installment in the series. Gone was the awkward introduction of the first novel. I fell right back into this story and these characters lives. Although there wasn't an awkwardness to the beginning, there was a very confusing prologue that had me second guessing what the hell was going on.
Although, to be honest, there were a lot of scenes that had me asking what the hell is going on.
This novel in still in Safi, Iseult, Merik, and Aeduan's point of views. Although, it has a larger focus on Merik's story; and, a fifth point of view is introduced, as we also see from Vivia's point of view. Merik was instantly my favorite character, so I really enjoyed focusing on his journey. He has a very dark journey in this book with a lot of uncertainties, which lends to an overall dark tone in this installment. I was incredibly invested and intrigued with his storyline. There was so many new aspects to the world and the witchery laid down in his story; however, we don't get a lot of answers or explanation. I cannot wait to see what else is involved in this storyline and how it could possibly tie into the rest of our cast. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the POV of Vivia. Being inside her head really softened her for me and made it easier to root for her and her kingdom. She is a young woman trapped by the expectations of men based on actions of her mother, and it was fascinating. She is also a part of the LGBTQ+ community and does have a romantic interest. I really hope we more of this developed in the next book because I was really pulling for this relationship (among like every other one obviously).
That was one thing I would have liked a little more of: romance. All our characters are in such problematic positions at the end of the first book, going into this one, that none of them really have time for a relationship. Two of the characters do embark on a journey together for most of the book, but it is definitely more of a partnership than a relationship (although I am still shipping them so hard!!!!). There was some great romance in the first book, and I would have liked just a pinch more here. There were definitely opportunities (and I respect Dennard's decision to keep it platonic - for the moment), I only hope that we see more in the next book. Give me more swoon-worthy scenes please!!!
The pace was a bit slower when compared to the first book, but I still really enjoyed it. This book had a lot of foundation and set-up for the rest of the series. It felt a little more foundational to me than the first book, but I didn't mind because I'm really excited about how all of this will tie into the overall story arc. There are much bigger fish to fry than what our characters keep getting thrown into, and I can't wait to see that flushed out more. I'm still very intrigued by Merik's journey. I want to see what comes of the events at the beginning of this book, since we haven't had answers yet. Also, I am way more curious about Aeduan's past. As the next book is titled Bloodwitch, I am sure we will have some insight into that. And, the Hell-Bards...what is going on with that?? Everything seems to tie back to the puppeteer and the Raider King and Weaverwitches (which, by the way, is what what I think the last book will be titled).
All in all, I really enjoyed this installment. I am having so much fun with this series and these characters.

I'm so glad I liked this one more than the first. I think the shift in focus really lent to my enjoyment, and I just thought that it did more for the world building and plot development. I've seen where people don't think a lot happens in this book, but I'd disagree. So much changes and grows and is expanded. The characters have developed so much more and their situations have really been fleshed out. I wasn't the biggest fan of Truthwitch, but I'm definitely on board for Windwitch and the rest of the series. I cannot believe I actually have characters I want to end up together. It probably means that they won't, and I'll be crushed. We'll see!

DNF @ 50%. This book is so slow and incredibly boring. I actually like Truthwitch and wanted to see more of those characters but literally nothing happens in this book. I usually don't like DNf'ing books because I don't like giving up but I've got WAY too many books to get to and I'm not going to waste my time on a book that I am literally forcing myself to read. I won't be continuing with the series.

I was really swept up in this story (pun intended)!
I just love how people will talk about one person they know ends up also being connected to someone else. I didn't want to put my book down last night, but I had to because of work.
While I didn’t always care much for Vivia’s POV I and glad we understand her more and [how her relationship with Merik changed].
It was just so good! Also I totally called a very specific thing and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Im gonna attempt to write out a cast and a few notes for those that may be as confused as i was going into this one. Some spoilers.
The prince aka: Merrik/the Fury. A windwitch. A sea admiral. Gets attacked by sea fire and is now something else than alive, covered in burns and scars. Doesn’t really feel pain and doesn’t die when wounded. He used his power to save some members of his crew as he was being burned. Now friends with sister, but leaves to let her be queen. Everyone thinks hes dead anyway. RIP Saffi and Merrik.
Boy AKA: Cam/Camilla was a cabin “Boy” on Merriks ship. Now his lone friend. Was a plant for the nines/her brother. Is actually a girl.
Ryber: new friend of Merrik. Leaves with him for answers to separate from Cullen. Says she can heal him and Cullen.
The nines: a gang of bad guys. Possibly the ones who tried to assassinate Merek.
The Shadowwitch. Bad guy. Unknown. Or Cullen?
Cullen: was Cleaved. Best friend of Merrik. Now is linked to Merrik. One dies, both die. Insane. Is now Fury/revenge, wants to make Merrik king. Merriks thread brother.
Isulte: threadwitch. Best friend of Saffi. Weaverwitch. Now friendly with Edwin. She can now speak to Saffi in dreams (dream walking). Has a silver coin necklace that Edwin can track, and a necklace that draws her to Saffi. Visited her mother and cousin (?) in last book. Ran away with them. Is supposed to find them again in the future. Is described as having an expressive nose. Its a weird trait. Makes me think of some sort of cartoon noodle, wiggling around often.
Edwin Aka: bloodwitch. Not exactly alive. Works for: unknown. Doesn’t die. Has no threads. Has red eyes. Saves kids. Now friendly with Isulte. Has special coins. Mean something to him: unknown.
Little girl/Owl: has unknown powers. Is hunted. Is linked to a Mountain bat (dragon type creature). Shakes the earth. Earthwitch(?) Protected by the bloodwitch. Doesn’t speak. Likes Edwin.
Firewitch: bad guy. Get cleaved by Isulte while trying to kill Edwin.
The puppeteer: Esme- visits Isulte in dreams. Is the cleaver. Teaches Isulte about cleaving. Works for/forced to work for: unknown. Has the sightwitches journal.
Vivia: the princess. A waterwitch. Sister of Merrik. Wants to be queen. Doesn’t like refugees. Wants to be queen. Has secret water well. Finds under city.
Saffi: truthwitch. Best friend of Isulte. Running from emperor: aka creepy old man. Decided to join the red sails empress. Is nobility. Hated her drunken uncle. Turns out he was pretending. Worked to help her escape the emperor. Hid her being a truthwitch.
Empress Vanis. ironwitch. Wants Saffis help. Asmeer(land).
Kaden-the Chiseled Cheater. Now a H*llbard. Friendly and kindish to Saffi.
Lev-Hbard girl.
Zander- giant Hbard. Wraith with necklace collar. Take off the collar, the truthwitch can read them, but they die if the take them off for too long.
The bards now work for Saffi. She saved them from a seafire. Originally hired by the emperor to bring Saffi back.

I am so sad I waited so long to start this series. The covers always lead me to believe it was very high fantasy and I am not a fan of that. Lo and behold I adore this book. The switching of perspectives can be crazy hard to follow but at the same time I really enjoying getting a peek at what everyone thinks/is doing. It creates such a complete picture that you can really see each character as being real and tangible instead of just outside help along char.
