Artemis and Butler meet up with the LEP again, this time working on the same side to stop an overthrow and rescue Artmes's dad.

Artemis and Holly are forced to work together to stop a goblin uprising and save Artemis Senior. Along the way, they learn about each other, have to rely on each other, and bury the hatchet over how they met. I love how you can see all these little hints of Artemis starting to become a bit more of a decent human being because of his association not only with Holly, but also characters like Mulch and Foaly. The lonely genius boy just needs friends...

Observations on the audiobook, which I listened to concurrently: all the other characters get pretty nice accent choices, but Opal Koboi's is a travesty and really grates on me.

Loved the story and the characters. Artemis seemed to have less time in the spotlight, but that wasn't a bad thing. Some of the action scenes were a little difficult for me to follow, but it never became a point of frustration for me.

Absolutely stellar. The tech did not age well which only adds to the humor. The characters are believable and fantastic and you want to route for nearly everyone.

The second Artemis Fowl book pics up about a year after the end of the first. Atermis is showing some nice character progression and I like the character interactions. I think the characters are what really make this series - the plots are nothing spectacular but it's fun and fast. Another of my cotton candy indulgences. I'm pretty well hooked on the series.

The banter in this series never gets old (and that's not just the nostalgia talking :P)

Noticeably better than the first book in the series. The characters have more depth and are less like 2D bad guys and good guys from the previous story.

Yet another enjoyable episode of Artemus Fowl.

The focus of this book is about saving Artemus's father and also The people from evil Cudgeon and Opal.

Foaly is handicapped by the virus planted by Opal. Cudgeon by partnering with Opal and using the goblins is able to disarm the LEP and also using the mud men batteries to take over the police. He aims to take over the entire world, but his plans are thwarted by the brains of Artemus, Butler, Root, Cap Short and Munch (dwarf)

The narration is very good and it definitely keeps the reader hooked. Would definitely like to re read this book.

Seeing that I've read books 1, 3 through to 5, it would be logical that I have read book 2.

Only I don't remember a single thing.

So! Quick brush up on book 1 (thanks Wiki) and although the story really doesn't ring a bell, I fell back into Fowl's world rather comfortably (and Colfer's writing style), if tinged with a faint sense of nostalgia.

I really didn't remember a single thing from it, which is strange, but usually there's a point where I do. So... maybe I actually really haven't read it!

In any case, Opal is a weird antagonist to have, though she wasn't the main villain. So I saw her more of a comedic relief in a way. Her spoilt bratty dialogue just cinched that persona and I didn't really take her seriously.

Not as good as the first, but still very entertaining.
