I enjoyed this book, it was a nice, short and somewhat relaxing read. The prose is very simplistic, without much flourishing, but it did its job nonetheless. I feel like some aspects of the story were rushed, such as her finding a love for books (after the first instance of her reading and loving a book, she just says she read even more later). Some mentions of a regretted abortion that doesn't directly seem like an anti-abortion sentiment, but maybe coild be read as such nonetheless.
Some of the passages felt a little like "men writing women", but not in a sexualising or degrading way, simply in a "doesnt understand relationships between women that much" type of way, which isn't as bad.
Simple plot and story, but overall a nice reading experience !

Part 1 was quite relaxing after she moved out from the city where her boyfriend was exploiting her.Unfortunately, it tends to skip forward instead of giving more details about the good parts of her forming a friendship and getting on better with the customers in the bookshop,Then there is a bit of conflict with confronting her ex

Part 2 is a lot more lively in the audiobook with the dialogue with her aunt sounding a bit hyperactive and emotional.

This book came at exactly the right time for me. As I was reading, there were so many passages that I wanted to snapshot and remember - it’s so gently positive and uplifting. I feel like I could read this again and again. It was very enjoyable - I read it all in one sitting - and I’ve been left with a warm, happy feeling ever since. It’s like pleasant medicine. It’s a book that reminds you to be kind to yourself but also reminds you there’s a whole wold of possibilities out there. It also highlights the importance and strength in family bonds, and how much of a difference we can make to eachother, sometimes without even realising. Beautiful writing, Beautiful characters. A perfect book in my mind.

Lovely, heartwarming tale. I think it’s a great depiction of depression and how strong relationships can change your life for the better.

Grief - I can’t believe it ended like that

Pretty sure this will get the award for my shortest read of the year, coming in at 147 pages total.

I really enjoyed this translated story, focused on Takako’s journey to finding herself after a bad breakup. From living in her uncle’s used bookstore for a while to her strengthening of relationships with herself, her uncle, and her aunt who has reappeared after 5 years - so many heartwarming takeaways.

If you’re looking for a short, not too heavy read - consider picking this one up.
