I liked how John Wells had to make tough choices; few were black and white and it was interesting to see how he dealt with the varying shades of gray. The romance part wasn't great, but it was mostly inconsequential and not entirely unrealistic. It did bother me that Exley was so willing to jeopardize her career for someone who, after being out of contact for a decade, she didn't even really know. There was enough back story to become invested in the characters, but not so much that it was obtrusive. All in all, I was pleased with the story, plot, and pace and I will read more of the John Wells books.

Pretty okay. Some of the writing is really solid and enjoyable, and some of it is kind of cringey - particularly the parts involving a woman's POV.

I loved this at first. The character was very engaging and the story was good - just enough love drama to make me happy. The last 75 pages lost me though - I can't explain why. I wasn't feeling well as I read it so maybe that was it. As I was reading it initially, I was excited about this being a new series to me with this character. Now, I am less sure

solid character development of the hero, but a little more of other players would have been appreciated. the author did well to share the inner struggle of the main character, and weaved an interesting plot. on a personal level. I was a little dissapointed in the conclusion, but really that is just an individual choice of how to end the story. a well done first novel for the author.
