For those of you like me who have worried about this series. Wondering why am I still reading this. It isn't bad but it sure as hell isn't good. This book is a turning point. Does it become as well thought out and culturally well put together like say an Ilona Andrews or Nalini Singh book pulls off no? In the second book, she's at a Chinese American wedding. Her parents are described well enough to want her to marry a Chinese American or Chinese man but somehow having a "wedding". That isn't well Chinese American. I've been to about 8 Chinese American weddings. there's a spectrum to them but normally it has some cultural moments. It has colors certain things go on that are different from the white weddings I've gone to or the Indian American weddings I've gone to. So, I felt a little insulted that this woman is writing a Chinese American character without doing research .. but I went with it. I thought maybe she's gonna be settling into something. Then the main character who is supposed to be Chinese American said Oriental dress and me CRINGED. Hit stop on the audiobook sat back and debated on if I was going to keep reading. That one statement felt like someone writing was yellow facing a book. For lack of a better word. Meaning writing a book about Asian American characters for "spice" doing 0 research or consulting with people in the culture (not talking about your friends or whatever) and puking out a book. Getting the high 5 for one of the rare times you see an Asian American lead outside of light novel anime area but not doing any of the work understand or characterization. [Sigh] I thought to myself. I don't want to give this writer my time. Personally, I'm not down to that. I've read tons of writers who write black characters like white people then agree with white people about certain issues. It creeps me out. As a black person, I just don't like reading that kinda stuff. I thought this series was going to be like that but I went ahead and kept going. I really like dragons after all.

Hit book 6 and I was like she knows how to do a tea ceremony good job. It felt like Yu understood what was going on like a third generation Chinese American and some she left on the table and some she went with. That felt like much better characterization instead of what I read in the first two books. also, it felt like when she wrote Cynna book something change and she realizes or maybe was able to better write Lilly Yu. Is this series worth reading? Maybe but it's no longer a hard 2 star for me.

The use of a new monster made this series come alive for me again. Nice job reeling me back into the series. Looking forward to the next book!

I love the way Eileen Wilks slowly unfolds more and more about Lily's past and heritage. She doesn't just dump all the exposition in the first book, or even the third. Each book reveals a bit more which is very realistic.

Loved reading this book again, I'd forgotten what it was about, what we learn about the dragons, because it's not too important plot wise given that the treaty is broken and finished by the end of this book, that I can remember. I could be wrong, though, with my poor memory!

Such a fantastic book! Loved the story, that the bad guys were just so bad, that they thought that their pain was worth more then the pain that she was inflicting!

Lily and Rule have decided to get married and their families aren’t necessarily happy about it. Rule’s clan has strict rules against getting married and settling down; the mate bond is all right, but getting married goes against the Lupi’s very nature. Lily’s family is not happy because Rule isn’t Chinese. And of course Lily is having cold feet because she feels she needs to figure out why she wants to marry Rule. Yeah, she loves him and is going to be with him forever, but why get married? They don’t have much time to dwell on these things though, between preparing for Cynna and Cullen’s baby shower and dealing with Grandmother’s powerful ancient nemesis who has come to San Diego along with her partner to use the city as a feeding ground.
I loved that we saw more of grandma in this book and learned about her past. I also loved learning more about Sam, the Dragon. I’d like to learn more about Grandma’s current partner.
I did find myself a little frustrated with Lily as she battled with herself about her upcoming nuptials, but I was satisfied with the resolution at the end. Another good installment in the series.

*Vaguely spoilery, but nothing specific*

Loved it, had a great time. I prefer the books set in the here and now and centered around Lily and Rule a lot more to any of the books in the series set in another realm. I also think those plots that involve a lot of sleuthing are Wilks' strongest. This one fully delivers.

I also really like that it involves Clanhome and Isen. He is an interesting character and he deserves more time on the page. I also love grandmother in any shape or form. And although I just said I prefer the setting to be in the present, I liked the brief looks into her past. They were a little lost though, too short and too few to really contribute to the story. I would not have minded a longer look at her past. Sam was fun and I loved the gnomes.

I am beyond glad that this book was amazing. I loved every minute. The story was filled with action, suspense, intrigue, romance and character development. These characters have become my friends, and I cannot wait to see where their next adventure takes them.

I loved getting more info (even if it's not all the info) on Grandmother, and all the interesting stuff about Lily's Gift. And more about Sam. I love the dragons in this series. I wasn't sold on Lily & Rule at first but now I really enjoy their relationship. Even though it's UF and neither one are exactly a regular human I find them very realistic. I've never known a couple not to fight during wedding planning (it's stressful) and I appreciated how their argument was handled here. Not blown up or melodramatic, but just an argument, they thought it through and talked it out. But really, I love Grandmother and whenever she shows up to kick some ass I'm happy.
