This has a cool John Wick like assassin hotel. All of the main side characters were so very loveable and welll developed. This was very insta-love, but this is explained through her multiple lives. I did not enjoy the deo "essence". I also did not enjoy how the men treated the deos as their play things and that they got no say. Like they just expect them to be chill with being a concubine and never to want more in life? Or having a say in being a concubine?

4.5 stars. The book flowed and I was able to finish it in a day. From beginning to end I was rooting for Nessa and Lanis. I thought their relationship was so cute. The summit wasn’t all the way my vibe, I felt there was some awkward wording for things but overall the story was great. I loved the side quests they went and didn’t even mind the fast paced ending. Recommend if you want to read a good plus size book where she’s confident through the whole book and people are drawn to her. If you don’t mind insta love then this book is for you. Amazing story can’t wait to read more from this author!!!!

Another book that lured me in with a truly stunning cover.
Similar to my last read, this one had a lot of potential. Its set on a post-apocalyptic Earth where people are pretty desperate due to a failing economy. The main character, Nessa, gets a job at a mysterious hotel "making deliveries" to guests. Enter, a few human friends. A mysterious masked guest. And lots of questions.
My biggest issue with the book was there were too many infodump passages for me. It seemed like a few times throughout the book we got either a huge monologue or an internal self reflection to go through what was going on in the world. It was a tad confusing but overall just kind of... boring. Because things were told so "x, y, z" I didn't feel attached to the characters or the stakes of the book. Which stinks, because Lannis (the hero) is super interesting!
Nessa (the heroine) is a bit of a Mary Jane. And the lack of relationship development really didn't give stakes to the love story. So overall, not for me.

Love the story, but…
This really needed a read through before being published. There are a LOT of typos to the point where it was distracting. I still really liked this book. The world building is great, and I love Lanis and Nessa.

Interesting new series
I found Ella Maven and this book because of the Drixonian warrior series. This new series has a different feel. The world building is interesting. The characters and setting are a fun mystery. I look forward to the next book.
Nothing beats the Drixonian warriors though!
