Overall, it is a good book but a basic small-town romance. The start of the book was so hard to get into and the rest was predictable. Not my favorite from Nicholas Sparks.

What will love do? Bring two people together or force them apart so neither one has to sacrifice? Jeremy and Lexie deal with this situation extremely, when New Yorker Jeremy Marsh takes a trip down to Boone Creek, North Carolina.

Jeremy is a journalist for Scientific American in New York. He mostly has to write about new diets and if they actually work or not, but he also gets to debunk people and sightings for what they truly are; frauds, mistakes, or coincidences. After showing the world a supposed psychic was a fraud, Jeremy gets a letter in the mail. In Boone Creek, North Carolina there are strange lights that take place in a cemetery and night when it's foggy, and no one knows what the cause is. It's Jeremy's job to go down into the town and find out what the cause is: if it's really the supernatural or if it's just a coincidence?

Boone Creek is a small town, and when I say small, I mean small. Everyone knows everybody, being the mayor is only a part time job, etc. When Jeremy enters, he is known as a 'celebrity' and everyone is very fond of his presence. To start his research of the mysterious lights, he goes to the library where he meets the lovely Lexie Darnell, a young librarian with a whole lot of sarcasm.

When Lexie first meets Jeremy, she judges his character based on her past heartbreaks. She doesn't want to get close to him and end up like she did when Mr. Renaissance (a guy from Chicago) left her life, leaving her in the dust without saying good-bye. But with Jeremy, somethings different. She tries really hard to deny the passion between them, but there's no denying the spark that comes to life when they're together.

What will happen between Lexie and Jeremy? What will happen in a week when Jeremy has to go back to New York? What will happen when the truth about what the lights are/where they come from comes out? What will happen to Boon Creek's reputation?

So many questions, and they only way to find out is to pick up the book. I really enjoyed reading this book. I really liked the mysterious part of it, where there might be ghosts wondering the graveyard but no one really knows. I also liked the sarcasm and wit always played between the characters. I loved the banter, because it related to me in some ways. I like to be sarcastic with people, so I felt very connected to that aspect of the story. I also enjoyed how realistic it seemed.

In most of Nicholas Sparks novels, the outcome is sometimes a little bit unrealistic. But in this novel, Lexie was trying to be realistic. She was trying to save her heart from being hurt because she new that Jeremy was going to fly back to New York. She didn't want to make him sacrifice anything, which is why she tried to push him away. I really found it appealing to read that it wasn't picture perfect and there were problems between them, not a petty problem but a real one.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. It makes me happy that I liked this one so much because there is a second one. I would definitely recommend this book to people as a beach read because it can be read super fast and it is very interesting and keeps you on your toes. I would definitely recommend it to anyone!
