Ummm…..that ending really threw me lol. I found the first half really slow but I eventually got invested after Reiko’s story. She was definitely my favorite character. The characters did feel pretty real for the most part. The book can be quite sad and shocking at times so I recommend reading the list of triggers before reading.

No more Sofia book recs. This was garbage. I thought murakami was supposed to be good….????? His depictions of mental illness are deeply disturbing and problematic, and his obsession with sex is just EXHAUSTING. This took years off my life. 293 pages I’ll never get back.

P.S. it should be noted that Sofia did not enjoy the book she just made me read it bcuz she did and she feels the same way I do. #redeemed

First Murakami! Surely a sad book but also very relaxing in atmosphere. I became immersed everytime I picked it up which is something I seek for in reading. Interesting speculations on grief love and friendship. Can see how this may not be for everyone. However I particularly enjoyed this a lot. A quiet and nuanced story that is definitely sticking with me.
