this book wanted to be *as good as dead* by holly jackson and *truly devious* by maureen johnson sooooooo bad and really ended up being just. neither of those. none of the characters were compelling, the plot was… all over the place, the answers to the questions were just kind of meh, and it didn’t feel like any sort of mystery or thriller. also, it really failed at having an ambiguous ending?? like, it just wound up feeling like a lazy move, not having to establish any sort of consequences for anything (emotional, mental, physical, or otherwise). all in all, i didn’t like this book.

Pretty good thriller. Was bored in a completely predictable way (my problem) and then was like, whoa! That escalated quickly when it got to about 3/4 of the way through. Overall, it was fine. I’d read the sequel. I’m just not really a thriller girlie.

This was a fairly good book but the ending was one of the least satisfying endings I have ever read

I didn’t think I would like it at all to be fair. I think that is why I gave it three stars - the very fact that it didn’t kill me made it worthy. My biggest problem was that the author left the end so ambiguous- and based on the main character I honestly wasn’t sure that it went the way I think it should have. Maybe it is just me but she was a complete waffle when it came to deciding who was right. Also she threw too many people under the bus and several story threads, especially the death of her mother ended abruptly and, in my mind, unsatisfactorily (not wrongly, just lamely). I am rethinking the decision to give it 3 stars.
