Is it bad I really didn’t like this book? It was fun and all, but the writing felt really repetitive to me and the characters all felt kind of boring to me. The plot had a weird resolution and climax and it was just.. “meh” at the end. Good for everyone who likes it though. Don’t make someone sexually assaulting someone else though a plot point. :/

5 BIG STARS!!

I loved this book! Was absolutely shocked at how much I liked it in fact. I have seen it recommended time and time again but never had an interest in reading it. To be fair, I did not think I would enjoy the Fantasy Genre. I have read very few fantasy books in my lifetime so I wasn't eager to dive into this one. Well, now I am hooked and already starting book #2 in the series.

I will admit, it was slow in the beginning. I could not tell if it was due to the writing style or my sheer unfamiliarity with this world. I was having a difficult time picturing this world, the different species (I don't know the proper word) of characters, and what the issues were. I found myself distracted wanting to look up fanart of these characters as I just could not picture what they looked like. Eventually, I was able to move past that either by ignoring what I was trying to visualize or by locating a good enough art piece to satisfy the internal questions I had.

After that, the story just took off for me! I fell in love with each character over time and found myself desperate to know how it ended. At times, I grew tired of Feyre's outlook on situations. I genuinely rolled my eyes the number of times she thought she was "tough enough" or "different enough" to literally defy death against immortal creatures. It was a love/hate feeling towards her at times, but then again, I enjoy when a human character is flawed. There are countless times in life when I think, surely it can't happen to me or I bet I could beat this situation/problem. Oh how terribly and endlessly flawed we all are.

I also thoroughly enjoy a good enemies to lovers storyline. Who knows why? Let's chalk it up to some past young adult trauma in my life that should probably be looked into more... Nevertheless, I am a sucker for it. So this obviously ticked all those boxes. Heated debates. Angry glares. Heavy breathing. Sexual and probably toxic tension in the air. Check, check, check and CHECK! I ate it all up. Tamlin had it all for me and I was falling more in love with him after every page, or so I thought. More on that in a bit.

Another pro point towards my high rating is the sheer idea of this world. Forgive me if this is common in other books or is a storyline that has been done before. However, I truly enjoyed the originality of the Prythian world. The idea of the different courts and what they represent was so intriguing to me. I am genuinely excited to read more about them in the other books. I do wish there was more time spent learning about Under the Mountain and what it was like for people under there. So much of the book was spent in the Spring Court and the Village that I think a little more time could have been dedicated to Under the Mountain. I say that because I wanted to hate the villain even more than I did. Don't get me wrong, she was truly horrendous. However, I wanted to have that same visceral reaction that Feyre did. I felt like more time was spent on getting the reader to dislike Rhysand than it did on Amarantha.

Speaking of Rhysand.... I said I would touch back on my love for Tamlin at the end. The ending of this book had me feeling all kinds of ways. I literally closed it at the end, turned to my husband and said:
Me-"I am so conflicted right now."
Him-"Why?"
Me-"I am lovingggg this bad guy. I think I love him more than the main love interest. What is wrong with me?"

Needless to say, I ended this book hooked and so very confused about how I want the next one to end!

Read it!! You won't be disappointed!
