As discussed in the introduction to the Signet Classics edition (by no more than Vladimir Nabovok himself), the story is a mediocre detective story, going through the motions of a Victorian mystery. It is, however, a splendid look at how good and evil exist within each person, and how attempting to alter the balance within oneself is not a good idea.

This is a tale that is well known by many, and also somewhat polarizing about a lawyer and his friend Dr. Jekyll and the mysterious and unusual events that happen around him, often dealing with a man named Mr. Hyde. This story details the events and investigation into them.
I wasn't so sure I was completely sold on this at first, but once I reached the end I realized the brilliance of it all. I loved the philosophy and really thought-provoking nature of this book and the suspense was excellent.
This is definitely one I plan on revisiting in the future.
