Beautifully evocative of a fraught time in history and yet warmly hopeful. Would recommend

Extremely slow start but an excellent look at the experience of children evacuated from London during WWII. It certainly wasn’t all positive. Of course I’m a sucker for a happy ending ending.

This book is Bedknobs and Broomsticks meets The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and I'm here for it. So charming and cozy.

This gets compared to The War That Saved My Life because of the WW2 evacuated children premise, but it has none of the depth and feeling that that book did. I would totally read The War That Saved My Life instead.

This is a delightful middle grade book reminded me of the kind of books I adored as a kid. It is like a cup of tea on a chilly day.
