4/5 stars. I enjoyed the book, I loved how the author really explained what BDSM is and the different aspects of the lifestyle. The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I didn’t like how she was blowing off her friends and how fast the relationship went, with BDSM it’s about trust and even though it’s fiction she wouldn’t trust him that fast even though he’s her favorite author.

Shockingly Good

Refreshing take on the genre with a plot I haven’t personally come across. I enjoy trying to figure out the plot prior to its exposure in the book, and the plot here wasn’t on my bingo card at all.

Refreshing and made me feel seen as a reader. It’s almost scary how relatable Alina’s inner dialogue is.

I absolutely loved this book! I love how Alina went after what she wanted! And Nas is a freak in the sheets but a gentleman in them streets.

This book was definitely different. I appreciate that the author took the time to explain a lot of stuff when it comes to bdsm. It wasn’t light. We got terms, consent, scenes, all that. There did seem to be a lack of aftercare, especially staying in the basement afterwards. Idk. Alina was kind of annoying in the beginning. I get that she wanted more from her partner but she didn’t really seem likable to me. She was also a crap friend. Her referring to her kinks as a darkness also rubbed me the wrong way. Then she turned stupid and I could tell the mmc was being a bit manipulative. The plot twist was so predictable. All the pleading in the world wouldn’t make me get back with that man because the author never showed us that there was more between the main characters than being D/s. I will say it was a great storyline.
It felt like the book was written by two different people and the second person didn’t read what the first author wrote. For instance, the character swallowed the last bit of filet mignon and then on the next page, the character explains they had filet mignon. So some parts felt repetitive. Some of the book was told, not shown. It’s not a bad thing but you can definitely tell this book was written by a man.

Seeing Kingdom recommended on TikTok as a BDSM romance with an unusual perspective—a male author writing a female protagonist fascinated by a male author’s erotic stories—I was curious.
The main issue for me was the single POV. I was really hoping for a dual POV, which could have opened up Nathan’s side, showing us his thoughts on pulling someone into his intense lifestyle. Seeing how he processes his own persona as an author of BDSM novels could have added so much.
The chemistry was intriguing, especially at the start, but as the story progressed, it didn’t evolve in a way that kept me invested. The main character’s journey felt a bit stilted, maybe because the male author writing her perspective didn’t entirely capture the nuance I expected. Overall, I’d say the book had potential, but it didn’t quite reach the impact I hoped for. If you’re into a spicy premise with a heavy focus on fantasy-versus-reality, this book could still be worth a read—but I think a dual POV might have really elevated the whole experience.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I’m just trying to wrap my head around some things here and how I felt about it.

I think it started out strong and then to be honest I got a bit bored/distracted/loss interest… dunno I feel like it needs a little adjustment to bring it to the 4/5 stars for me.

I did enjoy reading Alina & Nas’s story but something was defo missing for me.
