I read this because I loved the way the author writes. I read somewhere that he had wanted to tell another story through the eyes of the women in the Middle East, and I just knew I had to jump on it. I thought this book was far better than his first novel, maybe because I am a young woman and this is mainly about the lives of two young women, trying to survive in Afghanistan. The story is told over about twenty years or so. I loved it, but it was also graphic at times, something I feel like I wish I had known before reading it, but it's not a book to pass up. Every woman, young and old, needs to read this.

A story about friendship and hope amongst the war. Khaled Hosseini writes beautifully and mesmerisingly with a heart wrenching story. My initial thought early on in this book is “trauma porn”. To a certain extent, i still think that it is true but i am happy and satisfied with how things ended.
