Y’know, sometimes you just need an alien romance novel and this was a pretty good one. The miscommunication at the beginning was fun and I actually thought the world building was very thorough and unique, and I found the story outside of the romance really engaging. Obviously people aren’t reading this for the science, but I think the author has set herself up to develop a pretty interesting series. I found Ada a little wishy-washy and sometimes thought the way she talked about her sister was condescending but overall I had a fun time reading this and really, what more could you ask for?

this was interesting, i liked the world building to an extent in the last 20 percent i was a bit bored with it- but overall pretty good. ML is one of the Kings for his galaxy (hoping to be emperor) FL is captured human being sold as a prize (one of many girls) and she is his fated mate (alarah). it’s a cute story, she needs to find her sister who is also on the planet.

On one hand I enjoyed the story, on the other hand it fell flat for me. I'm stoll going to read the next in the series.
It was OTT insta-lust which isn't my favorite trope. I did feel the MFC was a little back and forth which was irritating.

This was my first book by Sara Ivy Hill, and it definitely won't be the last! The story grabbed me from the very start and kept me on my toes until the end. The world-building was amazing! The main characters were a little too stubborn at times, but were still realistic and relatable. The steamy scenes between them were fire! A very enjoyable read :)

I loved this book, even though it started like other books where a human woman being sold is rescued by a hunky male alien. The characters and worlds were detailed and interesting; and, there was enough action and angst to keep the story exciting. I can't wait to read the rest of the series! Spicy with a HEA.

I didn’t like Ada. I have read more annoying characters, but she’s easily in the top 10 most annoying characters I’ve had the displeasure to read about. She’s selfish, she’s demanding, and she’s very, very stupid. I mean, the fact that the first English word he learns is “more” should tell you everything you need to know about this woman.
As for him, his personality can be summarized by three words: masculine (whatever that means), nudist, whipped. Literally nothing else. Why these aliens bothered with clothes is beyond me. They spend more time putting the clothes on than actually wearing them. He bends over backwards to please her and she’s just an ungrateful, stupid little bitch. He’s willing to sacrifice not only his own life for her and to cater to her every whim but his whole planet and the lives of those living in it. Why his people hadn’t rebelled was beyond me, because he was a very incompetent king. I mean… he didn’t even know about crop rotation, how did he feed his people? And that reminds me, this world felt so empty… the story was so focused on the MCs that anyone else is hardly mentioned, and the planet seems to be populated by Lothan, Ada, his advisor and his wife, one single guard, the pit master and two guards (who are killed, so…). Ah, and the little orphan they “save” only to foist him off to the advisor and later claim he’s like a son to them after like five minutes talking to him, during which they make promises to the kid only to break them. Made me really mad on the little one’s behalf.
There’s no chemistry between these two, so the sex scenes felt kinda forced. They were just horny. Dear God, were they horny. Especially Ada. I mean, you have to be extremely horny (and incredibly insensitive) to fuck the guy while he’s bleeding to death (I was commenting on this situation with my husband,and his only question was WHY?). Plus, they’re standing, and he’s bleeding from a major injury to his leg, so… please, tell me how he could do that. No, really, explain it to me. Because physiologically speaking that would be impossible. Research. Your. Stuff. And you can say “but he’s an alien”. Yes, but in the whole book there’s nothing, and I mean nothing, that made me believe their physiology was that different from a human’s (except for the black blood, which is mentioned twice). They don’t even have fast healing, just the healing pools, but in an escape pod in the middle of space they didn’t have access to that.
In my mind, the assassin brother (can’t even remember his name, that’s how one-dimensional every character was) blows up the space station with all the priests and his brothers during the meeting to hear their father’s last words (at about a quarter in), and takes over. And not because I liked him better than everyone else, but because he was the only one with enough neurons to pull something like that.
