I'm probably not the intended audience for this; I'm not really a poetry fan. Mainly due to not understanding what is being said most of the time. I tend to need it to be a lot more direct, or at least have colourful enough imagery to get into the atmosphere. I love Saul's music, so I was hoping to also get along with his poetry, but alas.

Some of the poems I liked, but for the most part they were just meh. I didn't even grasp what the topic was until about halfway through. I can see why people would like this, but it's too cryptic for my liking.

I will try again with his other books and see if it fares any better, hopefully it will.

WOW.
The play on words that Saul did was just OTHERWORDLY.
The themes approached and the poems written blew my mind.
WOW! WOW! WOW!

Most of these poems I feel like didn’t even mean anything, and I felt like I got absolutely nothing out of the book as a whole.

I read this many years ago- my college mind digging through all available shelves and bins for a poet full of newness. It would not be an exaggeration to say that I was obsessed with Williams after reading this small volume, reciting each piece aloud to an empty bedroom while imagining the stage he must've been on when he read. Williams digs, cuts, inspires, and decidedly hold up over time.

I am sort of sad to give this book only two stars because I really enjoy William's slam poetry. I feel like a lot of the power and beauty behind his art in the presentation, and when his work is presented in written word format it loses some of that power and beauty. If someone wanted to know about Saul Williams, i would probably recommend them Amethyst Rock Star rather than She.

Well, this was seriously underwhelming and actually very confusing at times. How do we define poetry now days?
