You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit.
It has been many years since I last read any Oscar Wilde. Back then, I was in school, and could never fully appreciate the sheer beauty of his work. Now, all these years later, and having finished this rather seductive little novel, I find myself in awe. It's an exquisite tale, an exploration of a hearts darkest recesses, a lamenting of a soul desecrated by youthful vanity. Books such as this, make reading the classics so very rewarding. As readers, as lovers of stories, I think we shall never outgrow the need for such tales. How very tragic, how dreadfully romantic, that one of the finest and most enchanting of gothic novels lead to the downfall of it's author.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a delightful and depraved novel. It's picturesque and elegant, yet sour and grotesque. It acts very much, as a character study, allowing us to watch on in horror at the corruption of a soul. And, what better character to examine than Dorian? After all, he represents the Victorian ideal so well. A beautiful, eloquent and charming gentleman. However, behind closed doors, he also represents the world hidden amongst the shadows - The things deemed immoral by Victorian society.

There's something so very sad and haunting about this tale of art and lust, of beauty and sin. It has a history so captivating, so enrapturing, a true succès de scandale. What an enthralling work of art, a novel of such speculating and legend. We may never know the true tale behind the novel. It is said that, it's inspired by Wilde's secret gay lovers who now lay immortalized forever between these pages. It's said to represent the life that Wilde desired for himself, it's even said to be an account of his many private escapades. Whatever theory we choose to believe, it remains a story colored by the lens of Wilde's life, and I think, I rather like that.
The renaissance know of strange manners of poisoning - poisoning by a helmet and a lighted torch, by an embroidered glove and a jewelled fan, by a gilded pomander and by an amber chain. Dorian Gray had been poisoned by a book. There were moments when he looked on evil simply as a mode through which he could realize his conception of the beautiful.

Alright, this takes the cake. It was such a chaotic and entertaining story. The pacing of the book was fantastic and the descriptions never got tedious. Even the tangents on the horrible realities of the world never became too much for me. The characters were interesting, and the emotion [a:Oscar Wilde|3565|Oscar Wilde|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1521044377p2/3565.jpg] induced was a rollercoaster, but an enjoyable rollercoaster.

i never enjoy reading for school, so that did take some of the shine off, but dorian gray was a great read nonetheless. some parts seemed more dull than others, but that could be blamed on the fact that i don’t read many older classics. the end was great, though, and even though i had seen ben barnes’s movie i totally forgot what was going to happen. i enjoyed the smaller and bigger plottwists that kept me interested just when i thought the story was getting too boring. probably the best classic i’ve read!

Svi smo mi nekada bili Dorijan Grej. Mladi, zeleni i podložni uticaju, porocima... jedino što većinu razdvaja od ovog mladog junaka je upravo ta želja da odrastu jer se ugledaju na odrasle, ali ovde Vajldov sensei Lord Henri daje čvrste reči koje uveravaju mladića u suprotno ali svaka istina ima dve strane! Neki ljudi Henrija vide kao edensku zmiju koja stavlja glavnog lika u iskušenje ali iako su njegove reči oblikovale Dorijanovu budućnost, ne može se poreći da nemaju sopstvenu težinu. Ovo je inače jedna od retkih knjiga iz koje sam brižljivo izvlačio citate.
Neki od takvih su npr: "Ka kulturi vode obrazovanje ili pokvarenost", rečenica koja na groteskno slikovit način može prikazati čak i današnje stanje kulture.
Bitan je doživljaj oslikavanja poroka iz perspektive Oskara Vajlda na lice pojedinca, što me je nateralo da se osvrnem i kroz tuđa lica pogledam njihove poroke. U knjizi je to predstavljeno onim ciničnim osmehom, prvim znakom promene slike, bitan preokret u knjizi.
Pored svega već rečenog, da ne ponavljam bazične karakteristike ove knjige, mogu reći da je sopstveni doživljaj dela bio izuzetno iskustvo uz veliko poistovećivanje kako sa glavnim likom tako i sa dva najveća sporedna, slikarom i lordom. Čini se kao da je Vajld stvorio koktel ličnosti, razdvojio na tri dela i svakom delu dao telo da ga predstavi u ovoj nezaboravnoj priči o promeni i stagnaciji, mladosti i zrelom dobu, moralu i ljudskoj pakosti.
