This book was heavy, relatable, informative, and affirming. I am 3 or 4 years into the decision to cut off a toxic parent, and I know my choices were the right ones and I did everything right for me (and perhaps them too). It is still very helpful to be reminded that I made the right choice, and that I am not alone. I loved how the author brought in her own experiences and journey, her writing style and fun quotes made it easy to follow along.
We all deserve to be happy, do what you feel is best to achieve that.

it was pretty interesting to read a psychology book that focuses on life after no contact but I did find it a bit off putting at times that the author spoke in such direct terms - I feel like there could have been a broader approach taken when writing but that’s just me!! still pretty solid. 3.5 stars

Wow. I have read many other books on the same or similar topic of toxic family relationships and this by far has been my favorite. You can tell it was written with so much compassion, as the author herself is healing from the same experience, while still being factual and citing studies when making her points. Reading this made me feel seen, validated, and hopeful. I've read other books that have argued in favor of repairing relationships with family or give strategies on how to cope in continuing relationships with toxic family members but for those of us who dont have that option, this book offers acceptance for the decision to cut ties. It also guides you through common tactics and behaviors of toxic family members if you do cut contact and how to deal with it. This book helps to heal your inner child and give you the confidence to be an independent, self-assured adult.

really good, also helpful to understand more about relatives who have decided to cut off toxic relatives and how to be supportive in those instances
