DNF at 37% (over 100 pages) . Far too much Wikipedia science jargon and very little in the way of an intriguing plot. I read science books for science, not goofy novels like Subhuman (which of course can hold similar information but usually shouldn’t hold near as much as a textbook which this does for some reason). At 37% read I couldn’t tell what exactly was supposed to happen. It’s STILL building up the premise, and based off the description, the eventual “horror” or “thriller” aspect is to come but I ask: when? You should have reeled me in at over a third in and there isn’t even a preview of what’s to come so I can’t in good conscience attempt to finish a book that I am not interested in reading. Sorry.

I wanted to like this because it had a really good premise but there was just something missing. I don't know if it was the lack of character development or inability to fully explain what was actually going on but it ended up letting me down. Not terrible, just not that great either.

Great fun. Adventure, technothrills, terror and blood. If you like Preston & Child, Steve Berry, Matt Reilly, et al, you’ll like this. Fast, fun read. The narration is very serious and ominous, but totally works.

You know what you are getting into and for what it is it's fine. Cookie with raisins that may or may not be dried roaches. Mix of the first AvP movie, Promethius, that first Doom movie, and all the ancient aliens conspiracies. At least 1/3 of total volume is a pseudoscience word vomit. When it's good it's cheesy in pulpy kind of way. When it's bad it's cringey in pulpy kind of way. Includes use of "politically correct" in a negative way, scientist instantly clocking precise ethnicity of a human skull she saw, as well as a smidge of "both sides" regarding climate change.
