It was a tedious read. The main female character was to flippant,  one second hurt and angry, the next screwing everything. She felt very underdeveloped as a character - shallow. There was more time an  energy spent on describing the character's shoes than there was on any real conflict and resolution or real story telling.

Lex is a married college student who goes back to his home town only to fall in love with his sister's best friend, soon having an affair with Charlie. There's two timelines one where: Charlie is an 18 year old high school student where as Lex is a 26 year old college student. This is where Lex is married and starts having an affair. The other timeline is nine years later where Charlie finds herself engaged and days into her engagement she runs¡s into Lex and starts a physical relationship with Lex again. There's a lot of vulgarity.
Many times Charlie's friends encourage her to cheat on her fiancé, which for a lot of people it can be discouraging.

The writing style was a little weird to me. I found myself skimming the book after 40%. I couldn't be bothered to actually get sucked into the story. There's a whole lot of smut, which is nice if that's what you want to read.
Overall, if you're not a fan of infidelity, smut and brutality, this definitely isn't for you.

I'll leave some quotes from the book just to show if this is a book you'd like to read:
"I was just the girl who fell in love with her best friend’s brother who happened to be married." -Prologue

"I placed her hand over her heart. “Just follow this.” “It leads me straight to you,” she whispered." -Chapter 36, Alex

"I attempted to walk like a normal human being and not in a rush to meet my married boyfriend." - Chapter 38, Charlie

"As she begins walking away, swaying her hips on purpose, I grab her body, roughly pulling her back to me. Pushing her against the shower wall, I tug her bikini bottom aside, ramming my cock into her. Her groans intensify as I thrust harder."- Chapter 44, Lex

"He unbuttons his jeans, pushing my head down to his cock. There’s no waiting, no more teasing. I take him all in, sucking greedily while he leans against the bike." - Chapter 45, Charlie

I picked this up after seeing it pitched on TikTok. This is definitely a dark romance, and if you do not like cheating, this is not the book for you.
When Charlie was 18, she started to have a secret affair with her best friend's older brother, Lex. Lex was in an unhappy marriage at the time and told Charlie he would leave his wife so they could finally be together. That never happened. Now, ten years later, Charlie is running her own successful law firm, and has just been proposed to by a wonderful man. Lex still haunts Charlie's nightmares, but Charlie finally feels ready to move forward...until she runs into Lex at a restaurant in NYC. Now Lex thinks he has his second chance and Charlie does not know what to do.
I knew there was cheating in this book before I started reading it, but I did not expect Charlie to treat Julian, her fiancé, so poorly. Charlie blatantly lies to Julian and strings him along because she is not sure if she can trust Lex. The whole situation really got under my skin, and I wanted to slap Charlie; if she wants to be with Lex, then break it off with Julian, she should not be trying to have her cake and eat it too. Lex was also insufferable to read. He CANNOT take no for an answer and is relentless in pursuing Charlie. They are both toxic people who make poor choices, but I still enjoyed reading from them. I am a sucker for a second chance romance, and I was rooting for them. They are both very broken, but I think they would be good for each other.
I was not expecting this book to be a series, but I am intrigued to continue because "Chasing Love" ends in a major cliffhanger.

Loved the amount of smut, good story line with it. Found the main character, Charlie, slightly irritating and felt sorry for her fiance, Julien.

Overall enjoyed it
