I really loved this book - very smart to have Death as the narrator and adds an interesting removed element to it

It was desperately sad and explores the many victims of war and the fact that everyday humanity still exists even in the darkest of times

It reminded me a bit of the boy in the striped pyjamas, but with more moving around and exploring contexts of the war on a wider scale and how it affected those of Hemmel street

I loved all the characters in their own unique way and l was sad to leave their story

One of those memorable books that's sure to be talked about for years to come, this unique perspective on WWII from the eyes of a little girl and Death is not just about war. It's about family, friendship, thievery, and a burning need to read. Brilliantly written in a way that will actually appeal to most teens.

Such a beautifully written book. As I began to read I realised how familiar the scenes in the book were until I realised I had watched the movie for class a couple years back. It didn't deter me though, instead it furthered my ability to picture every scene in the book and feel all the emotions that Markus wants us to feel. No part this book felt forceful, it just flowed & created a realistic & appropriate picture of how the war affected many different people for different reasons.
I honestly adored the characters of this book too, I felt incredibly connected to them as they all appeared to be dealing with pain and uncertainty in the best way they knew how.
I would recommend this book to anyone.
