I love Lackberg with a burning passion. Her writing never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat.

This series inspired my interest in Nordic Noir and contemporary crime/detective fiction (but Arthur Conan Doyle gets all credit for my love for this genre more broadly) and I will always be thankful to it for that, but this novel was such a disappointment. I still liked encountering familiar characters and their dynamics, but I disliked pretty much everything else about this story. Maybe it’s just my state of mind at the moment but I felt that this moved way too slowly and the story was too outlandish for what I look for in good crime fiction. I will still continue with this series because of my overall love for it, but this one did not work for me at all, and I’m just glad I finally finished it.

Contras: A resolução do crime é totalmente descabida e apressada.

Another twisted puzzle from Lackberg that I devoured! Her detective Patrik books leave me heartbroken and disturbed, in an addictive way. These stories have a way of captivating me to the point where the original crime that the book opens with becomes the backdrop for a complex tale to steal the show. I love her style. It’s hard to tell who the real victim is sometimes

This is offensive garbage. 0 stars.

First off, this is a book with a ton of trigger warnings. There is a lot of emotional abuse and a very graphic
rape.

The book started off slow, and the characters who are being threatened were so obnoxious that I found it hard to care about them. Two of them in particular just treat the others around them so poorly. I also feel like the clues were poorly paced. Things kept happening, but no additional clues were given. All the reveals piled up on each other at the end. The last book gave away the twist too early, but I feel like this one started giving clues too late.

The pace picked up at the end, but the final resolution was so offensive.
Christian's three friends raped his sister, and he didn't stop them. He had schizophrenia and Dissociative Identity Disorder, and he developed "another personality" that was a version of his sister, and that personality killed Magnus and sent the threatening letters to the others.

This is a really offensive portrayal of
mental illness.
The ending only makes sense if you buy into tired stereotypes. This book is just spreading stigma against an already marginalized group.
