4.5 stars! A great read about the women, particularly the Black women, behind the mathematics of the space race!

Such a fantastic story, but the writing is a bit dry and that kept me from giving it 5 stars. Well worth the read, though!

The content of this book is fascinating and important, however, it was delivered in such a boring way. I struggled through this book. Two stars for the content and the importance of the tale, but ultimately, I did not enjoy it.

This is an excellent history of a people who contributed greatly to our country, yet never got the recognition they deserved. It should be required reading for anyone working in the technology field - there simply is no excuse for the segregation that remains.

The story of these women and their tales is amazing. I found the writing repetitive at times. I did the audio book which was well done, though I’d guess I missed some photos.

It’s mostly about racism in the 1930s through 1970s over the backdrop of the space race—an important story to tell and to make people aware of racism that still exists today. I love the references to white women as “girls” in the way Black and BIPOC women have historically been called “girls”. There are so many other quiet examples to teach the reader. Not an easy read.

I listened to the audio book. This is a phenomenal work of history and triumph in a way that a young woman starting any career can cheer with and be inspired by.

DNF- I got about 75% through it and I just couldn’t anymore. I REALLY wanted TJ like this book but it very quickly became like reading a 300 page job description. It was so dry and uninspiring that reading felt like a chore.
