This book is giving SyFy movie vibes. I’m picturing low rent CGI bears, cats, and snakes. I’m here for it.

This book was great. I loved the take on “zoo gone wrong.” It was pretty much non-stop action. I wish that the book had been longer and gone into more detail. Or had less going on and focused more on certain events. Thus, the four stars.

I really enjoyed the writing. A couple adjectives were used frequently and, again, it felt a little rushed. All in all, I enjoyed it and plan on reading the other Cryptid books.

This was a cryptic Jurassic Park. Just different monsters. Same story, same bad guy.

The concept was cool enough that I spent six chapters slogging through cardboard characters hoping the plot would save it. I eventually had to call it quits.

A zoo full of cryptids? In a horror novel? Of course you know something was going to go wrong. And It does in a spectacular fashion. SO many cryptids, so much blood, so much destruction. Exactly what I want from a book like this. It delivered the goods.

Okay!

This book was okay. It’s another rehash of Jurassic Park, but without the originality of it. Mad scientists create monsters, Locke em up, monsters get out and eat people! The end!

I enjoyed this. It wasn't Matt Reilly levels of craziness, which I'm ALWAYS looking for, but it was quite crazy. Good story, not bad characters even if we didn't really get to know them much. Definitely gonna read more. It was mindless fun.

Cryptid Zoo promised to merge two of my favourite things - cryptids and horror - so I was really excited to read it.

Unfortunately, between the subpar narration and the rather tame story, I found it really hard to enjoy it.

Pros:
• I was expecting the usual suspects like Bigfoot and the Kraken but was pleasantly surprised by the variety of cryptids that were actually included in the story.
• No attempt at explaining the pseudo-science (a good choice in this case).

Cons:
• Very lazy representation of teenagers.
• Awkward dialogue.
• Too much of the dialogue ends in "(insert name) said".
• Not much really happens until about chapter 22.
• Characters behave in unrealistic ways multiple times throughout the story.
• The narrator's attempts at doing multiple unique voices was poorly executed and frequently jarring.
• Ending was abrupt and unsatisfying.

All in all, this book wasn't for me.

Somebody wrote a review tha this was trying to be a jurassic park that didn't deliver.

I disagree on all points.

This was a great read, and having read a lot of cryptozoology I got nostalgic over all the monsters.

The pacing is fast, the descriptions graphic and detailed without being boring. They might turn off sone readers.

The characters were likeable even if their actions didn't always match the state of mind they should be in considering their circumstances. But I didn't really care.

The writing style is a bit of a mix of the mundane with focus on what really matters..the creatures.

This could also be a great movie if done properly.

I already bought the sequel and cant wait to start it.
