Moonraker's Bride is one of those gems of a book that you've never heard about, but glisten regardless.
I happened across this book in a school library freebie lot in 2008. I had no idea at the time that I picked it up that it would be a delight to read again and again.
Moonraker's Bride is a suspense novel with dashes of history and romance peppered throughout that keeps you guessing and wanting to turn the pages for more.
Lucy, the main character is a strong female lead who is likeable, but with her faults, surrounded by what some would call fate and a mysterious riddle she keeps happening across.
A great story that leaves the reader wanting for nothing at the end, I am proud to have this on my shelves and wish more people knew of it. A continuous five-star read from me.

This book has been on my to-read list over at Goodreads since I joined the site three years ago! I hadn't gotten around to reading it yet because my local library doesn't have a copy. Finally I went ahead and requested it via InterLibrary Loan. It was a great read! The writing was good (it was both easy to read while still being descriptive) and the characters were great, too. The setting was very interesting: China on the brink of the Boxer Uprising (which I'd only really heard of but couldn't remember anything about), and I loved seeing the contrasting details between Lucy's life in China and in Victorian England. This is historical fiction with a good amount of romance (clean romance, I might add), some adventure, and a bit of mystery thrown in. The ending was just a little bit on the cheesy side, but since I'd come to like the characters so much, I was quite glad to see such a happy ending for them all. This is worth checking out if your library's got a copy!

This is an example of a book with characters that I did not relate to whatsoever, however the time period and overall concept was unique to me and kept me interested the entire way through. I am a sucker for 18th century-based historical fiction novels, especially those with ties to England! It was adventurous and fun to read about how people in different parts of the world (England and China) lived, ate, and socialized during that time. This wasn't fast paced, but it was a fun adventure and I of course enjoyed the romance as the story progressed.

My 17 year-old self would have eaten this up back in the day. Romance (clean), mystery, adventure, even a little history.... It checks all the boxes. I very rarely read romance anymore, but I did enjoy this. It was a terrific break from heavier reading and also from the heavy headlines surrounding 2020.

I love, love, love this book! I first read it as a teenager, but I think I love it more now as an adult. This is another marriage of convenience novel, but it is fresh and original.

I love Lucy's character- she refuses to be anything other than herself, although she tries to fit in. I also love how she is loyal and steadfast.

Great novel- if you can find it, read it!

One of my favorite books. My mom gave me this book to read when I was 13 and it has been a favorite reread. I can remember staying up all night to read "Moonraker's Bride" and when I finished flipping back to the beginning and starting again. You do not see this book or author Madeline Brent, which is a man, mention but it is one of my favorites.
