i saw this book at a shop in roma, and it had been in my tbr for so long, so i decided to buy it because i felt like it was a sign. i'm so glad i did! it was thoroughly enjoyable.

starting out with the only real problem i had with this book. it's not really a problem, more on me than on the actual writing, but it made me fall asleep at first, so it was super difficult to read when i started it, but once i got into the evidence it was so good. this book reads like asmr but slightly different, if that makes sense.

when i tell you i love mary debenham with all my heart, i mean that shit. she's such a queen and i can only aspire to be like her. "i am afraid i cannot have hysterics to prove my sensibility" will forever be ingrained into my brain.

overall, big recommend. it was so fun, like it's so of its time that it makes it extra fun.

Published 1934, AC outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare.

I didn't think I had read this before but as I finished it, I think remember it from junior high. Still a fun read and a classic mystery.

A classic of the genre. Kept me guessing almost to the end!

We listened on the road to and from Charleston. It was a bit tricky to follow at times, but clearly Agatha Christie is an incredible crafter of mysteries and weaver of tiny details.

Fun

To be fair I was biased by the fact that suchet was talking throughout. Actually at easy and enjoyable read.

Listened to the audio by David Suchet, so while it wasn't full-cast, it felt that way! Wow, he was good with voices and accents. Every time Mrs. Hubbard entered, I laughed. "My daughter says..." Also the American guy who said "just what is up with this train?" LOLforever!!

This was only my second Agatha Christie (previously I read Poirot #1 in print, The Mysterious Affair at Styles). I see why people love Poirot. And I was tickled that both stories involved a door that has special abilities to open from only certain sides or with certain keys. What a boon for mystery writers. :)

Behold! The master at the craft! A re-read (highly unusual for me)reminds me of just how clever and funny Dame Agatha was. Just about the best mystery ever written. Huzzah!
