I was kind of disappointed by this book. I remember reading these books as a kid and being haunted by them! I was hoping that the stories would be a bit spookier for me as an adult, but I was honestly unfazed.  The illustrations are WAY scarier than the stories. I also like the folk background that the author included in the book. But I wish this book stood the test of time for me; it is decidedly middle grade only.

While this is a reread for me, it has been so so long that it felt like I was reading this collection for the first time.

I liked that some of the stories were ones that I remembered from my childhood as ones that people would tell their friends or younger siblings.

I did think that most of them could have been developed a bit better. They were very short and sometimes too succinct.

Also, there is one story that could be very problematic now that we know not to take some stories from Native American culture.

very fun. the writing has a very childish energy to it which complements the stories very well, which speaking of which, are also childish in the best ways. some of them are very darkly humorous, some of them are quite disturbing. very cheesy, very corny, and i assume its intentional. the charcoal drawings gives of a macabre vibe as well. my favourite story is the dead man brains.

This book terrified me as a kid. If you have a sensitive or anxious child, please warn them to stay away from this book.

A spooky little book full of short stories. Some are stories better and more memorable than others. Definitely geared towards a younger audience, but still a fun read for all ages

A fun introduction to spooky folk tales for younger readers, but I actually preferred reading about the origins of the stories, as opposed to the stories themselves. To be fair though, I'm not the target audience for this book.
