Not gonna lie, Charles never grew on me. The rage room scene of his was maybe the only one where I didn't distrust him. He's been so hot and cold with Kate throughout the entire book even right up to the end with the brooch that I couldn't get behind their relationship at all. Great that he pushed Kate to reconcile with her dad but like maybe try some therapy yourself king? It got too timeskip-y after that that I couldn't trust that he ever really got better.

A fine book but not for me I guess. I like my love interests a little more reliable.

This is definition of a slow-burn which is nice, but I felt the chemistry was lacking. That being said, the FOOD was not. If Verant wants to try out cozy mysteries focused on food, I'd be game for that.

I received an ecopy of this book through Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own

I finished it. Not sure if that says something about me or the book. I disliked a majority of this.
Male lead: Sucked.
Female lead: Idiotic.
None of the charm of Simply Irresistible which relied heavily on camp and great actors selling the ridiculous storyline. I love that movie. This book is disappointing.

Thank you to @prhaudio for a complimentary audiobook copy of this newest book from Samantha Verant!

I enjoyed 90% of this enemies to lovers, foodie romance set in Paris that had meddling mothers, a sneaky cat and a touch of magic. I really loved that the story followed Kate (never to be called Kiki) who is trying to start up her own unique fusion food bistro and her grumpy, reclusive, billionaire neighbor, Charles who just happens to be a former Michelin starred chef.

These two are forced to work together by their mothers and slowly fall in love. The romance felt a little too formulaic for me and I didn't love how Kate fantasizes about Charles constantly but then when he's actually interested in trying to see where a relationship might go she sort of slams on the breaks. They two also don't end up in bed together until the last 10 minutes of the book and it's a fade to black, closed door situation (which I don't always hate but I felt like we got teased throughout the book and got a big let down).

On the plus side this book had great food, fun side characters and of course Paris, France!! Recommended for fans of the Netflix show Emily in Paris looking for a more adult romance or fans of books like Roselle Lim's Vanessa Yu's magical Paris tea shop. Much thanks to NetGalley and Berkley Romance for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

When the world at large is going cuckoo bananas, sometimes a fluffy comfort read is what you need to stay sane. Meet Kate, a high-strung chef who dreams of opening her own bistro in Paris. She wants it so bad, the universe sends her a colourful cast of characters to help her out - from her free-spirited and off-colour mom Cri-Cri, to her enigmatic and fabulous benefactor Garrance, the charming musician Oded, and just to add more heat, the moody, broody sexy Charles. The plot is formula, but with so much heart and flavour, it is immensely satisfying.
For me, it ticks off all the boxes - Grumpy meets Sunshine, delicious food descriptions (and working recipes!), character growth, comedy, tension, chaos. I’m not the biggest fan of smut, so it was a bonus that this book has so little of it. A most satisfying day spent.
