Thank you to Netgalley and the Author for the copy!
Fav Quote: "The moon has scars, too. But night after night, it glows brightly against all the darkness that tries to conceal it"
I'm not sure how to feel right now. The ending was so cold/brutal, and I needed a second to wrap my mind about how to write this review.
A few POV's.
Mainly the FMC- Emma
I was worried that we would get more POV from the King of Asov but only one chapter. I HATED being in his mind...he's a foul person.
We follow Emma living in Asov with King Oren...ugh hate him. I was very confused how she thought she could ask him questions...when he physically hurts her >.>
and how did she escape the castle? I'm still baffled by it. If he's so controlling and evil...how was she so easily able to leave???
Never liked Aiden...for a split second I let him in...wish I hadn't.
The side characters Cora and Kye...love them!
Draven...ohhhh Draven....
The draw to him as soon as he came on the page UGH...I love me some Draven!
I literally squealed when I found out his secret...like screamed! AH! I love this man!
The tension throughout this book was hot and when the spice hit...it hit good! I won't spoil anything even though I want tooooo!
Also, pat on my back for being right about that damn necklace!I knew they were mates! I KNEW IT! That freaking necklace was blocking it.
The ending didn't throw me for a loop but at the same time it did. My heart broke...I was like nooooo.....noooooo! Don't do this to me! I ran to see if there was a book two! Luckily, there is! Phew!
"What I want in this life doesn't matter. I've been dancing along the edge of death's tune for a while now"
"The moon may shine brightly,"... "But it's not always whole"
I really hope book two fixes my heartache!

Tries too hard
This book could have been fantastic. However, it really was not. First of all, the main characters name is Emma in a world were everyone has these fanciful high fantasy names. Secondly, things just always happened for the mc. She never solved problems..they just happened to get solved for her when she needed it to happen. No one knows about the creature in the well for 20 years?
Also, the writing. The writing was incredibly fluffy. The sentences became awkward. It was perfect for poetry or your English class writing assignment. But for a 500 page book it made everything clunky. A few times I think I snorted out loud.
High fantasy setting but with lots of modern day vernacular for no reason. Lots of metaphors. In fact, characters say checkmate.
We spend chapters going back and forth between characters and reading about the same thing with little actually getting done. Just a lot of filler. And a lot of telling and not showing.
I barely finished this book and I am upset with myself that I did because it was such a disappointing waste of time.

I liked the concept and characters but wasn’t a fan of the writing style. It was very wordy with a lot of inter dialogue and metaphors. I found it to be a hinderance to the pacing of the plot.

Took far too long to build up to a predictable cliff hanger. Won't read the sequel. Never got to the point where I was actually rooting for Emma.
Graphic: Child abuse, Death, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Gore, Physical abuse, Sexual assault, and Death of parent
Moderate: Abandonment

The author uses the terms "orbs" and "pools" to refer to eyes too much, but otherwise good !

Well that was a journey.. and now to be left on another cliff hanger. I am left speechless after this story. Cannot describe my hurt and anger at this book (in a good way?)
