the formatting made me want to gouge my eyes out. why was there not a single paragraph break. why was dialogue from different people ON THE SAME LINE. we shall never know! i am blaming the formatting on the translators because the kafka i know (i know literally nothing about him) would never do this. definitely requires a reread.

Great book, one of the amazing things about it is that every time I was returning back to reading after a time I remembered almost everything (plot, characters, scenes, locations). I enjoyed a lot the progress of the book which is very unique!

I love Kafka, love absurdist fiction, love philosophy…but nope, this did not do it for me. It could have easily been a short story (and would have been far better as one, in my opinion). The same thing just keeps going on, and on, and on… it is a little tiring after awhile. I understand that we are supposed to feel our narrator’s frustration at his seemingly hopeless, never-ending mission but let’s just say I REALLY felt his frustration. When the book ended I was slightly relieved and wasn’t devastated that this work was unfinished, which I feel says a lot.
