It's about time I finally got back into this world, and after 4 years since I picked up the last one (before my re-read), I'm finally here.

Reading this was a roller coaster. I wasn't entirely hooked by it, though found it enjoyable. It felt very centered around the romance this time around, and despite not minding that, it also felt a little rushed.

The build up with Tessa and Will feels a lot more natural to me, and despite liking Jem a lot (almost more than Will, but after this book it's probably equal), it just doesn't make sense how fast paced this went with Tessa.
Jem deserves the world, and of course I want to see him happy, but it feels like Tessa is only with him and agreeing to marry him because he's dying and she doesn't want to essentially break his heart.
She used him as backup when Will was pushing her away, and now that Will can finally be with her since he knows the curse was a lie, I don't really think she wants to be with Jem, and honestly that's not fair to Jem at all.

I don't know how this will end, I know it will hurt, but I'm ready for it...I think. Jem will most likely die, and I'll cry because of it, although I'm curious to see what'll happen with Will and Tessa. It's just way too much for me to handle regardless of the outcome

I do think this book is better than Angel, I just think I was too lenient on that one because of the nostalgia (I've now adjusted its rating to 7/10). I really like that the conflict in this book is split between Tessa, who is focused on Mortmain and the main plot, and Will, who has his whole curse thing going on and is a good window into the emotional conflicts. It makes this book feel much more...filled than Angel which lags in many places. Concerning the emotional aspects, while I love both Will and Jem and am well aware of how the series ends, it feels to me like Clare heavily favors Will. Will gets a very complicated backstory, a lot of plot dedicated just to him, and while Jem arguably has just as pressing of an issue, he's just so placid about it. He can be soft-spoken and kind and still have a desire to live.

Oh. My. Gosh. This book was amazing! The Feels! I'm mad that I got spoiled for the next book. This is the toughest love triangle ever! I love Jem and Will so much! I need to read Clockwork Princess but I'm reading City of Lost Souls first. This book made me cry and laugh. Only Cassandra Clare can make me this emotional over a book :) Stay tuned for reviews soon.

I feel like it took a while to read this, so I feel it was a bit long. I did really enjoy it though. I am disappointed the library doesn’t have Clockwork Princess so I’m probably gonna buy it. I was a bit surprised when I found out about Will’s secret. Then I felt bad for him when Tessa broke the news to him she was engaged. I did kinda prefer the first one. I still recommend it though.

3.5 stars rounded up!

I'll be honest, I'm reading this for the romance. There's not a lot in the plot that is unique or different than other YA fantasies of the time. But Jem, Will and Tessa are such adorable characters and I love them all, so I enjoy this series!
