So, so good. I can't wait for the next book, and look forward to rereading the fairytales that are mentioned in this book and that follow this one.

Content: clean- some violence

It's hard to explain how things work in my brain sometimes. I love reading. I can easily read two books a day if you'd let me. And yet bigger books intimidate me. However, I loved the Timeless Fairy Tales and the previous two books in this series so much that I refused to let the fact that this book was big keep me from diving in. Especially because I'm incredibly curious to understand more of what is going on!

For some reason I thought that we would catch up with the happenings of the Fairy Tale retellings in this book. I was wrong. After finishing this book I don't even doubt that the next book is filled with mostly, if not only, the last few tales we haven't seen yet. You would think that reading tales you've already read could get boring, but the opposite is true. I haven't been bored for a second. I once more flew through the book and enjoyed everything.

And that's mostly because it's quite clear that the fairy retellings showed only little of what is really going on. They focussed on the romance, on the couple, on them finding each other. This series focusses on the bigger thread, the politics and Angelique trying to save an entire world all on her own. In the fairytale retellings we saw her slowly getting more tired, annoyed and exhausted, now we see why. We see how hard she works, we see how frustrated she is, how she can't really recover.

We most of all see how the fight looks more and more hopeless. Of course we already knew that the Chosen have a very powerful relic, but we're also seeing how many powerful magic users are working for them. We also see how little the conclave actually does and I can't wait to figure out why. Is it fear? Is it someone sabotaging them? I most of all can't wait to see how this will all play out once we're past the Snow White storyline!

To start with, I have loved KM Shea’s books for many years and have devoured them as soon as they are released. But this particular series has been a test of my loyalty. I find it frustrating that the bulk of what I am reading is just background information to what I have already read in other TFT books, liberally sprinkled with Angelique’s frustration and exhaustion. Don’t get me wrong, I will follow this series to the bitter end, but I’m getting impatient for some truly novel development!

Fun but repetitive

I was happy to see Angelique has developed and grown in friendships and in standing up for herself over the course of the last three books. That being said, I'm thoroughly tired of the "I'm evil because my magic controls sharp things" thing she's had going on for the last 15+ YEARS in story time. It's not convincingly handled and rather just feels like we keep being told how 'terrible' she MIGHT be but never actually really see any evidence of that.

Enjoyable but a bit repetitive

The book was good, I loved the scenes with Angelique interacting with main characters from the other books. However, a lot of the book was Angelique travelling which is understandable but got repetitive. Also, I really didn’t need an exact replica of all dialogue scenes. They really didn’t add to the story when in the original the main character usually correctly guesses what angeliques really feeling.
