This series grows on me - as well as the British vocabulary. I've never read books that needed an open dictionary by my side, as this series does. Since I'm more used to American English, idioms of the Brits are like another planet for me.

That said, I really enjoy this series. The plot is intriguing enough to make you want to keep on turning the pages, but what really grows on me are the characters: inspector Richard Jury, Melrose Plant, Sergeant Wiggins and of course, aunt Agatha. They simply liven up this series and make it a fun read.

I truly enjoy a series with likable characters that make you want to come back to find out what they are up to; Jury, the policeman investigating, Wiggins, the hypochondriac by his side, and Plant, the wealthy friend with a knack for being at the wrong place at the right time. This story centers around the murder of Gemma Temple, who she really is and her relationship to the wealthy Crael family. With a handful of possible suspects, Grimes keeps you guessing to the end

Another excellent entry in the Richard Jury series. It's full of the dry British humor and great turns of phrase, like "Wiggins had managed to turn hypochondria into an art or even a sport." (33)

The characters are once again well done, the setting, too. The plot was solid but I have concerns about the pattern I'm seeing. True, I'm but two books in and I just read the first volume last month so it may be fresh in mind. But it's got me concerned. I'm going to hide the rest of my thoughts because they're uber-spoiler-y.

Spoiler
Two books in a round a woman is murdered in the past by one of the suspects of this murder. The identify of the victims is also unknown or at least called into question. This time Julian killed Dillys years ago. He's suspected of killing Gemma who is trying to pull a fast one on the fam to get the money Dillys was set to inherit. But he didn't. It was Julia, who's the illegitimate granddaughter of the Col.'s late son. And she's mad! She was one of the ones I thought might have done it. So yay, me?

There's also a subplot that has nothing to do with the actual mystery. Bertie's mom flying the coop has nothing to do with the plot but Jury solves it anyway! I feel like this is something that does happen occasionally and I can't remember it happening in the first book so that doesn't quite fit in the pattern I've found. But I wanted to put it in here so I remember it.

A perfect book for a long drive. amusing characters, but did sort of miss a greater Agatha role :-). it is not a superior crime or mystery book but competently researched, we'll plotted, excellent pace and we'll read in the case of are listening to it on audible.

Entertaining. So glad that Lady Audrey didn’t figure into the story much. As far as I’m concerned, I hope she gets offed or goes back to the States. What an insufferable character. She might be comic relief to some readers.

Listening to these stories is a challenge given so many characters. I need to see the names to keep up with them, but I only had access to the library’s audio copy.

I will move on to the next one and hope Lady Audrey has passed on…..

This is the second Richard Jury mystery I've read, the 2nd in the series, and so far they're great! It's a cross between the lighter mysteries I've read (Hamish Macbeth series, Evan Evans series) and the grimmer Ruth Rendell mysteries I'm fond of. Good stuff if you like to read a mystery every now and then.
