Read as part of the SI Thursday play-reading group.

Whatever Annabella is, she's really not a whore - possibly the best of a bad lot of dodgy characters in the play. Her brother persuades her into acts of incest, by stating that the Church approves. Later, he kills her and enters the last act with her heart on his dagger - a Renaissance kebab, you might say. Vasques, whom I read, is an anti-hero in the mould of Bosola, though not as charismatic, and virtually all characters seem utterly cool with murder and rape.

A late play in the revenge drama genre, but with many of the standard tropes - no ghosts this time, though. A fine play.

Such a great tragedy! The thing that stands out the most, for me, is the way religion is treated in the play. Atheism is the umbrella under which the incest happens here -- constituting not one but two huge sins. Yet the crimes that happen as a result of the incest will go unpunished by both law and church.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It helped that the scenes were short and full of action.
