This would have been a solidly 4 or 4.5 star book but man the last third really ruined it for me. The events behind the fallout between Elliott and Macy were just too much to come back from and I feel like Elliott's part wasn't really explored enough
Spoiler
Elliott was sexually assaulted, which is not explicitly stated (and therefore acknowledged imo by Macy) so there's no empathy or acknowledgement of *his* trauma. Macy's dad's death is so intrinsically tied to Elliott's "betrayal" I cannot believe that their relationship can so easily come back from that. Maybe I've never loved anyone that much but the end really left a sour taste in my mouthGraphic: Grief, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Alcohol, Car accident, and Death of parent

This was a fun, quick read. It does go back and forth between present day and the past, which may not be for everyone.

This book was mediocre at best, disappointing if I‘m being completely honest. Both of the main characters need therapy imo. I mean, first Macy gets engaged to a man she‘s known for a few months. Then she moves in with Elliot who she hasn’t see in eleven years (and who could basically be a whole other person than he was at eighteen which is the last time she ever talked to him)?! Make it make some sense. The drama was too much, the relationship seemed unrealistic and omg they both made one stupid decision after the other even though I must say Macy‘s decisions seemed even stupider than Elliot‘s. I just couldn’t bring myself to care about them and to be quite frank, they deserve each other.
I have heard many good things about Christina Lauren‘s books and I really hope this one is an exception. The only positive thing that lead to me not rating this with one star was their thing about „favourite word“.

This was a nice story but just too sad for me! A nice romance just does not make up for that kind of loss imo.

not sure how to rate this. i thought it was beautifully written and the love story was so sweet, but the ending made me so sad. i don't know if i would have forgiven him that easily if i had been macy
