“All men, Gertrude believed, tended to have some sociopathic qualities coupled with a wonderful ability to self-justify any behavior.”

A father, wrongfully accused of murdering his own son, becomes convinced that his son is alive, five years later. What does he do? What any rational parent would do, of course…. He breaks out of prison, goes on the lamb, & sets out to prove that his son is alive.

This was a sarcastic, action-packed, unputdownable cat-and-mouse crime drama. Layers of family loyalty, a duty to serve & protect, east coast mafia & corruption, and “God favors the rich” add a nice twist.

Was it believeable? No. Did it keep me engaged? At all times. I fully ate it up. The writing was a bit cringey at points (maybe I just don’t love casual stream-of-consciousness writing), and generally, you could see where the story was going (brownie points for the interpersonal web that was woven, though). There were also a few plot holes & things left unfinished — like, what happened to Rachel’s career? Why was that important if not to be wrapped up? But besides that, as with all Harlan Coben works, this had all the makings of an entertaining thriller / mystery & I was quite entertained.

Prison Break Alert!!

I finished this book in one sitting. It was pure joy to read something that kept me on the edge of my seat. Sure, there are some small parts that come across as a little unbelievable, but this just takes us back to the knowledge that this is Fiction. David is an amazing character, falsely accused and imprisoned for the murder of his 3 year old son. I really don't want to get into it too much as not to spoil it for others.

I'll just jump to end and say that the ending was so satisfying. Grab your lollies and settle in for a really good!

Not as good as some of Harlan Coben’s other books. This one relied on completely unbelievable plot holes and I saw the twists coming a mile away. Am I getting cleverer, or are the books getting dumber?
